This is different style of casting I am working on. More contemporary than the previous artwork posted.
These are just prototype test, what I am learning from them is allowing me to build custom
equipment and develop new techniques. My studio is looking more like a mad science lab.

Very nice. I like how you can capture the texture of a thing in such an aesthetically appealing way. I think there's a lot of potential with this. Just stick with what you find inspiring.

That's beautiful! You could start a buisness, selling your work. :)

Thanks for the responses. I am currently just making fish for this series. I am also working on minimalist and contemporary works for future projects. They are just concepts right now. My main got goal is to finish construction on my studio so I can start production. There is lots of steps and process that go into these art pieces. It has been taking a long time to setup the tools. I just got a hot glass furnace, so now I can make custom optical crystal glass. This will make glass clarity high and higher refractive index. I build a lot of the equipment, and shop a lot a the scrap yards for the parts I need. This is the controller I built for melting and cooling the glass. ( most of it was built from parts that people though away and then I found them )

Awesome! Really, it is. I feel so low tech with all my graphite, chalk and paint now. LOL.

I'd love to see the minimalist concept stuff you have in development, whenever you can get it done. I like doing things in series too. My problem is I start a series and then don't quite finish it. :P One series of paintings I have in development (translate: only sketches right now) are light and shadow studies of the interior of the Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas (it uses indirect natural lighting, so it's an awsome place for shadows). I did some primarily paintings, but stopped because I was unhappy with my technique. So I'm starting all over again.

All of them :) I have master molds made of many other fish, but most are larger than I can cast currently. I am waiting for the power company to install 600amps electricity. I hope to cast panels of glass 4x6 feet in size.

Hey, then you could cast a coelacanth! 8)

I'm curious if you need a permit from the city to have that kind stuff in installed, or are you outside any city limits and therefore exempted? Here in El Paso you need a dang permit just to install A/C into your own home.

That piece is spectacular and the fact that you're building the complicated system from found pieces is inspiring. Thanks for being inspiring!

Could you do a life-size casting of a whale shark for me? I've always wanted one of those. :)

A whale shark is to big. Neat fish. I will be making a small shark (3ft). There are certain limits to size a piece of glass can be, because of its cooling properties. Large pieces of glass take weeks to cool or the will crack. I post some more pictures soon, maybe some of the studio under construction.
