Hobbies and Interests: Psychology, microsociology, cultural anthropology. I also practice origami, speak Japanese (and study the lanugage as an additional hobby), and enjoy trying out new kinds of tea (new to me, that is -- teamakers' experiments are often... less enjoyable).

Why are you here? I found it searching for forums of this nature and it looked interesting. I was researching coping strategies for sensory issues at the time -- I know mine pretty well, but figured that there was no better way to find more of them than to go straight to the source.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Late highschool.

Favorite subjects: Autism research.

Year/Grade: Starting grad school in around a month.

Favorite music: Oe Hikari's works, ironically enough, although I like a fairly eclectic selection of music.

Books: This is a tricky one -- I like a lot of them. Probably whatever I'm absorbed in at the moment.

TV shows/Movies: Forrest Gump, Life of Brian.

Do you like sports? Nope.

Family: Father, mother, one full brother, two living half-brothers, one deceased half-brother. Plenty of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Clothing: I generally wear it unless I'm bathing, yes... (and yes, that was a joke.)

Job: Right now, I'm working part-time (far more part than time, really) at the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities as a clinical assistant and trying to help a new group (Customized Autism Transition Services) get on its feet (metaphorically speaking, that is -- the founder is quite capable of standing). Of course, things will change a bit when I finally start grad school in a month or so...

Plans for the future? While I enjoy clinical work, I really want to go into autism research.

Why are you here? I strongly suspect my son has AS, and am certain he is on the spectrum. And I recognize myself in him, and the more I research, I recognize in myself the diagnostic criteria and anecdotal references to Aspergers.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Not diagnosed, or rather, self-diagnosed - scared of shrinks! However, my son has a meeting with a school learning specialist for a formal evaluation at the recommendation of his pre-school teacher, so my (once fears, but knowledge = pride...that's it...PRIDE) is confirmed.

Favorite subjects: how can I explain this? I like the interdisciplinary subjects. Things like "history of science"/"Yoruba oral poetry"/"geoeconomics and globalization in postmodern Eurasia". You know, stuff like that.

Year/Grade: Graduated with a B.A.

Favorite music: I like obscure indie music (and sometimes, not-so-obscure indie music and obscure non-indie music)

Books: creative, reality-based science- and speculative fiction

TV shows/Movies: gave up TV, it was annoying and too expensive, but I liked shows like Rome and Carnivale and also some dry-witted bizarre cartoon comedies like Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law and Sealab 2021.

Instrument: liked the sound of guitar, but learned to play the piano

Why are you here? Because I have recently been diagnosed with Asperger's Synrome, and I came here through a Dutch site, and I find this a very interesting one, with loads of information.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): June this year.

Favorite subjects: History, physical geography, biology.

Year/Grade: Now on summer holiday, but next schoolyear I will be in my fifth year at high school.

Books: I have around 250 books, satisfied? I'm reading Dickens now and an encyclopedia about animals (learned it by hart without even knowing it, I remember it all ), but there are too many to talk (or write ) about, because I like so much.

Plans for the future? After I graduate from college, I want to be some sort of a writer. I don't care whether I'm a reporter for a newspaper, a poet, or an author, I just want to write.
