Technically, 130 or above is considered gifted.

From what I've heard depending on the test if you're scoring above roughly 135 you're a genius. 145 - 150 you're in the top 2%. Boredom at work and perhaps latent narcissism have led me to take several tests. While encouraged by the results I can't help thinking back to high school, surrounded by my peers, far far more academically gifted than myself. It was an entrance examined school though after getting in I felt the dimmest there.

Don't even get me started on my social skills! :D

It has been my experience/observation that there is a remarkable disconnect between the "gifted" (I actually hate that word) and the struggle to keep up. For example, I did very well in the languages and very poor in math skills: I tested into college-level english when I was a freshman in HS, played with the local university band as a sophmore in HS yet I never got past geometry in HS.
This seems to be very common in persons with Asperger's.
After a series of tests, lots-n-lots of tests (MMPI, IQ, etc) I feel more informed yet fractured all at once:
IQ of 132 but can't keep a job longer than a year.
Considered "gifted" (grrrr) but in all the "wrong" things. "Why couldn't he be smart at math?"
A near-eidetic memory for anything heard yet I can't balance a checkbook.
Taught myself to play piano by watching and listening to other players but I crumble when asked to recall a series of events at work.
So many typicals of someone with Aspergers.
I don't like being associated with the word "gifted"- it makes me highly uncomfortable. As though I didn't work very hard for something as I should have. Like there's a certain level of expectation that I will fail to fulfill.

Am I just rambling again?

I *know* I'm in the "extremely gifted" IQ range, but I really identify more with the moderately gifted everywhere else.

I've had my nose stuck into something with print in it for about my entire life, so being a reject never really bothered me.

Reading all this only makes me shake my head at orngjce223's pretentious attitude...

Let me try again.

I'm happy with who I am. If you have a problem with that, it hardly matters to me.

You'd have to try really hard to alienate us, from what I've been able to tell in my brief time on these boards.

I think what people mean is that it's not necessarily good to boast about being intelligent, as it can make other people feel worse in comparison.

When I was tested in grade 6, I was qualified as having "average" intelligence, but I'm not sure I believe that as I always tend to score in the top 2-3% of the state for pretty much everything (unless I try really hard or something?).

But at any rate, welcome to WP! The conversation here is quite intellectual (compared to other forums at least) I've found, and thus more enjoyable. :)
