It is hard to say why I am fascinated with it. One thing is that I play the hammered dulcimer---an instrument I am fascinated with. In Hungary and Romania they call those Cimbaloms. The Hungarian version is usually larger and placed in a table like stand---very heavy. The Romanian small Cimbalom is basically just like the Hammered Dulcimer that I play. The folk music of your Cimbalom would place it in the culture of the Gypsies, where the folk music of the U.S. places the Hammered Dulcimer in the culture of Appalachia---which at one time was referred to as Transylvania. There is still a university near me that is called Transylvania University---near Lexington, Kentucky.
I also find the Romanian culture interesting, and a friend of my wife's has traveled to Romania before on vacation and brought back a lot of literature on it---tourism literature and advertisments.
And I have also been fascinated by the inspiration for Count Dracula---Vladimir Teppish (different spellings of him). Vlad the Impaler as many know him was actually the great great...........grandfather of our 13th President, from 1850-1853, Millard Fillmore.
And I think your country has some incredibly beautiful scenery---especially in the Transylvanian region.
I have a CD of a folk group from Romania called Taraf da Haiduk---which I think translates in English to "Band of Gypsies."
I have also found your city of Timisoara interesting for its appeal to tourists from Western Europe and America.
