My mum always says "Ash-burgers", it sounds so ret*d, and I'm kinda embarrassed when she says it in front of people,

1. she can't pronounce is properly so she looks like a dumb-ass,

2. does she not consider who I do and don't want to know? People come to their own conclusions without looking into things. As soon as they hear it's "autism", they expect you to be hiding in a box to avoid people the next minute!

Sorry, but NT's are pretty dumb. You need to have Asperger's to understand others with the same thing.

I love the way you put that, I don't really care who knows personally but still I wouldn't go around declaring it to everyone and wouldn't want others to do so either.

i braved going down the pub a while ago and my dad decided to start shouting it out to everyone, i'd just managed making a decent firstimpression and he ruined it. when asked what aspergers syndrome was he replied 'oh, it means he's f*cked in the head'... just goes to show that parents aren't always the best people to explain

Wow that is really messed up, I don't think my half-sister's dad even knows I have AS but I don't live with him anymore. He tortured me enough without knowing I had any sort of disorder.

Heheh,

thanks for welcoming me everyone ^^,

I told this kid back in high school that having Asperger's made me smart, yet "socially ret*d". I don't think I could have put it a worse way. He used that very quote against me with his friends for months and months after. I tried to play it down by saying I was "only joking". I thought that perhaps describing myself as ret*d would show people I'm not ashamed to be who I am today, and that their words couldn't hurt me;

The truth being it does still hurt me. This is why it's best people don't know, even if you tell someone you trust will understand, they can pass it on to someone who'll use it against you. Big bad world, eh? 8O

It's NOT called Assburger

Exactly how is it pronounced, is there even a certain official way?

I've heard it pronounced so differently by so many people I'm confused on how to say it myself.

the word is often pronounced 'assperjer'. I must admit I do prefer the soft 'g' version.

I think it sounds much better this way^
