What is your first name? Mark

Age: 31

Location: Scotland, near Edinburgh

Hobbies and Interests: Soccer (particularly my local - and obscure - team), words/etymology, languages (including what are known as international auxiliary languages e.g. Esperanto), means of transport (especially bus networks), road networks, supermarkets, personal names and the backgrounds/histories behind them, local history. Quite a unique set of interests as you can see.

Why are you here? Probable Aspie, or possibly autism; and knowing there is a community where people like us can fit together.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Not diagnosed yet, though would be interested in it.

Favorite subjects: Left school years ago, graduated with Business Studies degree in 1996. Favourite school subjects were foreign languages.

Year/Grade: As above

Favorite music: Wide ranging liking for all sorts of pop and chart music, but have a particular penchant for Jamiroquai, Scissor Sisters, Craig David, No Doubt, Maroon 5 and a little bit of Madonna.

Books: The Bible, and other than that books by Christian writers.

TV shows/Movies: Favourite movies of all time have been Rain Man, Independence Day, Armageddon, Titanic. Watch TV for little reason other than background noise.

Instrument: Played recorder in primary school and drums in high school, but that's about it.

Do you like sports? Not a sports fan generally (4½ years working in a sports shop until recently put me off sport if anything). But as mentioned above I'm a soccer fan, especially interested in small, obscure teams.

Family: Mother and father's home is about an hour away from me. I have a sister who lives with my parents still. My parents are spending a lot of time in Malta (including right now) with a view to, they hope, buying a home and moving there. I have a very large extended family. I was adopted at the age of 8, and the comments above are about my adoptive family.

Clothing: Casual but smart. Once I eventually find a job, will look business-like most of the time.

How did you find this website? Via link on Wikipedia article about Asperger's.

Job: Currently unemployed.

Plans for the future? Whatever God has in store for me.

Any comments? I enjoyed filling out these answers.

Age: 35.

Location: Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who know this thriving metropolis well, I will specify that I live in Seddon.

Hobbies and Interests: Music - listening to it and making it, politics, internet...those are the ones I can publicly divulge.

Why are you here? Sorry, I'll go then!!

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): March 2005 while undergoing counselling for depression. My Mum wanted me to undergo a Fragile X diagnosis but there's no way I have anything that low-functioning. Good thing I do have a disorder because I haven't skipped since I was 7 and I used to get tormented by other boys for doing it.

Favorite subjects: Loyal, faithful and submissive ones.

Year/Grade: I would be up to year 27 if they went that far.

Favorite music: Girls Against Boys. My sig is one of their lyrics and my nic is loosely inspired by their name. REM, early Genesis, Hunters and Collectors, Thelonius Monk, Elvis Costello, Sun Ra, Pink Floyd, Average White Band, PJ Harvey, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, Death In Vegas, Charles Mingus, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, You Am I...many others that I'm going to kick myself for forgetting.

Books: Friedrich Nietzche (no I don't claim to understand it all), Lenny Bruce, Susan Faludi, John Pilger, George Bernard Shaw, Anton Chekhov, Philip Adams...many others that I'm going to kick myself for forgetting.

TV shows/Movies: The Simpsons, The Family Guy (same thing really), Arrested development...generally not much of a TV watcher. Love a good doco though. Films - Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Full Metal Jacket, The Cook The Thief His Wife And Her Lover, Dog Day Afternoon, This Is Spinal Tap, There's Something About Mary...many others that I'm going to kick myself for forgetting.

Instrument: Electric bass (like a lot of Aspies I've noticed), Vocals (classical/jazz training), Guitar, some keyboard, songwriting, arranging, programming and sampling.

Do you like sports? I follow St. Kilda in the AFL and catch the odd bit of tennis. That's it.

Family: Father, mother and stepfather, three younger sisters, one of whom has two sons.

Clothing: Maharishi meets used car salesman. We have some primo op shops out here in the inner west.

How did you find this website? Wonderful, thank you.

Job: DJ, cleaner and data entry. Not all in the same place.

Plans for the future? Going to bed. It's 5:08am.

Any comments? If you've read this far then you know you want me.

Name: Ann

Age: 25

Location: South Texas

Hobbies/Interests: AS, animal psychology and training, database design, cooking, origami, evolution vs religion, politics, beer (I love GOOD beer), wine, food

Why are you here: I have AS and am looking to hear about other people’s experiences and coping mechanisms

When were you diagnosed: Ain’t official yet, but I was originally diagnosed with ADD w/o Hyperactivity, but people with ADD didn’t ever seem to experience the same issues that I did. Now I’m trying to get the official diagnosis because I see myself in everything that describes AS.

Favourite subjects: Horses, off-the-wall facts (did you know that the common grocery store bananna is a clone of itself? That’s why they all taste and look the same after they’ve ripened fully.); see Hobbies/Interests for more information.

Year/Grade: Some college, but out in the working world now. I did take classes for a while but my job is paying pretty well without it.

Music: Rock, emo, indie stuff sometimes, some techno, dance music, tejano, and I’ve never been able to stand country. Bands include: Radiohead, Hum, Muse, Rage Against the Machine, Perfect Circle, Red Hot Chili Peppers,

Books: a lot of books! The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Harry Potter, Lamb (Christopher Moore), Trainspotting (Irvine Welsh…his other stories are great too), Memoirs of a Geisha, Life of Pi (Yann Martel…this is the best book ever), Jane Green’s books for a “chick-lit” fix.

TV Shows: South Park, The Daily Show, Iron Chef, Good Eats, Reno 911!

Movies: I’ve never been a big movie watcher, but I like The Royal Tenenbaums, X-Men 2, the Matrix, basically anything that has a lot of attention to detail and cool cinematography

Instruments: I used to play cello until I got tired of it.

Sports: I lift weights occasionally and will watch some basketball but that’s about it. I believe that football (American-style) is THE most boring sport in the entire world! However, I do have quite a fondness for Short Track Speed Skating.

Family: I’m an only child, my parents are still married, and I don’t live at home anymore. The first time I lived away from home I lived by myself and got shot in the leg by some guys who got into my apartment (that was 5 years ago now). After living back at home, I now live with a relatively understanding boyfriend of 2 years with a 6-month-old cat that I’ve trained to play fetch.

Clothing: Work clothes – slacks, boots/heels, button-down tops, occasionally a skirt. Casual clothes – jeans, shirt, and flip-flops...not too creative

How did you find this website: I don't remember

Job: I work as a consultant for a government agency. I do computer stuff that no one else can do. I like it.

Plans for future: I don’t have the bar set to high, but I just want to keep a nice routine, have the food I want to eat, make enough money to buy the things I need, and make sure things don’t get too hard.
[/color]
