Hello everyone. I was just diagnosed with AS a few days ago. A few months ago I stumbled upon an article about AS and I was just in shock as I read it. All this time I thought it was just me. So I finally got my insurance coverage and decided to go in and confirm my suspicions. I wish they had known about this when I was younger. All this time I was thinking that I was defective. Among other things, I am painfully shy (even in forums  ), I do weird movements with my hands for no reason (I don't notice it until my wife tells me to stop), I notice small unimportant things (even sounds) in my surroundings that other people don't notice or care about, I tend to get fixated on things or objects (even movements) so that the time goes by without me noticing. I am socially awkward. For example, I can start small talk, but after the conversation is started I can't think of anything more to say. I have problems with knowing how to gracefully end a conversation. I am also a klutz and I get all tense and nervous when I see people looking at me (I feel like I'm going to fall out of my own skin). Other than that, I am very intelligent, have a very loving (and patient) NT wife, I love to read (my room is overflowing with books), and I like to build computers. Well, enough about me. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Daedalus and welcome to the WrongPlanet. Like you, I have recently been diagnosed with AS, and I have a NT wife. After realizing I have AS, everything about me is starting to make sense now. I hope you enjoy this site---there are a lot of interesting posts here.

Isn't that so embarrassing!

This gets me into trouble at work. Patients will go on and on... I realize that I must get back to work needing completion. But if I say, "I'm sorry, I must get back to work now..." I get reported as rude. If I listen until they finish I get into trouble for not finishing my work.

Anyhoo, I hope that after you get over your initial shock of discovering that you are Aspie, you will accept yourself for who you are. Hope the diagnosis proves cathartic and helpful.

And welcome! :D
