What is your first name? lets just go with Michelle
Age: 26
Location: Oahu, Hawaii, USA
Hobbies and Interests: people! psychology and sociology... also, I really like going to the beach... and I really like shopping
Why are you here? I've worked with people age 3 to adults with Aspergers, though most of my experience is with high schoolers. Through my (post high school) education I've learned so much "clinical" information about AD/ASD/PDD, but I've found that really I learn so much more from actual people who live the life, not just people who write textbooks about them (now that I have the basic clinical info down).
Aside from my interest based on being able to better help the people I work with, I enjoy talking to the aspies I've encountered (I swear my boyfriend at least leans toward AD...). I think it's so interesting how people's minds can work so differently, and look at the same situation from very different angles. I've often found that talking with aspies expands my ability to think and look at things/situations/people/the world.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
Favorite subjects: psychology, English
Year/Grade: Master of Arts
Favorite music: So many different types! From Sublime to Kenney Chesney... everything in between, and beyond.
Books: I don't have any one favorite book, but in general I enjoy reading autobiographies, especially about people who show great resiliency. I find it so inspirational to read about people who have been through great trials and tribulations and have come out of it as stronger, better people. *side note: I really feel more studies should be done on positive things such as resiliency, not just on negative outcomes of bad childhoods, etc.
TV shows/Movies: House is my new favorite! I also really enjoy all the Law & Orders... and I like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and The Colbert Report.
Instrument: I played the flute from 5th grade through my 2nd year of college
Do you like sports? Sometimes... I used to like playing volleyball, though it's been ages. I want to learn to stand-up paddleboard, and although I only was on the team for a few months, I really really enjoyed paddling outrigger canoes
Family: My family is all on the mainland, so I'm separated from them by about 2600 miles of the Pacific Ocean... I have two great parents and an awesome younger brother... and I'll soon have a sister-in-law, thanks to him
Clothing: Depends on the occasion! I do like to look good, so I take the time to find things that are flattering... but I dress appropriately (usually) for whatever situation I'm in. Quasi-professional attire for one job, more dressed up, "trendy" attire for the other job... I really like comfy jeans and tank tops, sweatshirts with hoods... I wear sandals/flip flops/slippas a Lot out here in Hawaii!
How did you find this website? I was googling "positive traits"+"asperger" and eventually stumbled upon this site... and now I've spent a few hours of my workday reading through it (in between appointments, phone calls, etc)
Job: I work mainly with behaviorally and/or emotionally disturbed high schoolers, at the moment. Mental health/therapist
Plans for the future? Eventually I want to have my own practice and work with families.
Any comments? Nope

Okay, so I did this over two years ago, but because I've merely been a sporadic lurker since - after I fried my motherboard and had a hard time scraping up enough for a new laptop - I decided to reintroduce myself, and also see if my answers have changed. So...hi! *waves*
What is your first name?: Camilla (but you can call me Micki, or give me a fun, new nick)
Age: 22
Location: Vaasa, Finland
Hobbies and Interests: Pretty eclectic. To sum it up...The two most important things in my life: Humor, and Music (listening and making). Other things may come and go, loved ones may die, my house and all my stuff may burn up, but my humor and music keep me wanting to go on.
But also making and consuming art in general, including visual and verbal...all sorts of designing (sound-, photo-, film-, clothes). Science (fiction). Psychology in all it's forms (neuro- and criminal in particular), philosophy, debating (as long as it doesn't become hostile arguing, I like to keep it decent). Dystopian science fiction...and oh, I have this huge thing for collecting vinyl records and ties. I go nuts on flea markets (not only for the LP's), and all second hand shops. I love to find old rags for a small price and combine them making new pieces of clothing out of them. I love my sewing machine. Geography has been my passion since I was a little girl and would spend hours inspecting my grampa's Globe Atlas...so I love love LOVE reading map-books!
Why are you here?: ....why are YOU here?
When were you diagnosed?: My family discovered this in early -04, and since then I have made some thorough investigation on the matter and came to the conclusion that there is a high probability for me to be a case. Even if I don't like the concept of self-diagnosing. But I'll work on it. It's quite disturbing that my new therapist and couple doctors have dismissed the idea when I've brought it up whereas those with not much to do about it have been quite convinced. It's frustrating.
Favorite subjects: School? I'd say I liked everything. Bad teachers were the reason if something sucked, I saw the difference since I went to many different schools (9 first years to 5 different schools).
Year/Grade: I'm still stuck in my Art & Media/High School -combo studies because of health issues.
Favorite music: Few years back the answer would have been a strong "80's synth" -one...but now I've grew such an eclectic taste. Mainly electronic...but there is pretty much at least something in most genres that I like. E.g., I'm no metal fan, but I really like Ozzy and Black Sabbath. I'm not into rap/hip-hop either but Eminem makes me crack up.
But fave bands/artists include: Depeche Mode (Martin Gore = Genius), Jean-Michel Jarre, Simple Minds, Legowelt + other Dutch DJ's, The Cure, Tears for Fears, Killing Joke, Ultravox, Kraftwerk, Das Ich, Jefferson Airplane, Joy Division etc...
So I like synthpop/-rock/-punk, industrial/EBM and such very much, but you can't draw the line there. I'd get bored if change wasn't allowed.
Books: Stephen King, Anne Rice etc...I like Orwell and Wells too, but mainly I just like reading anything that I find intriguing. Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" was probably my first biggest book experience. I also love non-fiction as in fact- or documentary literature. I used to read my school books for recreation (particularly science and languages) I have a huge love for (particularly medical) dictionaries and encyclopedias (I always get stuck in them for hours!). Wiki is my friend.
TV shows/Movies: I don't really like TV per se, but some stuff I like enough to download. I liked Lost before I even knew it's a fad (...for the psychological aspect, like the reason behind all the survivors' behaviour, and I love the network of how everybody is connected somehow..). Also if I am near an open TV, I enjoy comedy, but am picky though (Conan O'Brien is hilarious), and crime/cop series like CSI and NYPD Blue. I really really liked the show "Numb3rs". I really find it touches my nerve for logical, but still creative problem solving. I also think House is the best doctor-show ever. I am an avid X-files maniac too. Metalocalypse is insane, twisted and makes me roar with laughter.
Blade Runner, The Cube, Dark City, Videodrome, Nightbreed, LOTR-trilogy, Rain Man, Interview With a Vampire, Dracula, Back to the Future -trilogy, Life of Brian...
I have always been a Trekkie and a Star Wars-nerd (the old trilogy) David Cronenberg, John Carpenter and Tim Burton are my fave directors. Not forgetting Lynch or Lukas Moodysson as well. I basically like really obscure stuff.
Instrument: Piano/keyboards and vocal cords mainly, but I also am a lot into base, guitar and drums. I wanna learn other, a bit more classical instruments too. Cello or clarinet would be great.
Do you like sports?: Playing them, not watching. Even if I mostly like doing things solo, I like team sports/ball games in general like football (soccer to you Yanks), basketball, (Scandinavian) baseball, and floorball aka Bandy (am not sure how familiar the rest of the world is with this, it is pretty popular in Scandinavia).
One thing though that I would simply not live without is dancing. Because it's intervowen with music, you know. I love the creativity involved...the rhythm and groove. It's an art-form, and I love the power of physical expression. Doing eccentric and complex moves gives me a huge rush/kick!
Family: Dad 400 km SE in the Capital, Helsinki....mom on the other side of the Atlantic in Florida...dad's parents and brother over in my home town Stockholm (Sweden), mom's mother and sisters in eastern Finland. So everyone at the distance of a 350 km -minimum which is ideal j/k. There was a time that I couldn't be around them, but now that everybody's matured and learnt more about themselves, we get along great. Unless it takes a swift turn into terrible which sometimes happens.
Clothing: Black. With bright color-highlights. Casual. My own style, what ever I feel like at that moment. It changes like my moods.
How did you find this website?: I think it was through wiki's entry on AS....
Job: Student/Street corner artist/class clown
Plans for the future?: I'll keep my doors open, and choose my path from opportunities that come. I will move out of Finland though after graduation and preferrably head for Berlin or Amsterdam to either attend some form of Art College or maybe a course on criminal psychology at a uni. I still have time to make up my mind...
Any comments?: Sorry for the verbal vomit (again!). When it comes to telling about me, I suck at keeping things short
