 thanks for the welcome guys - did i say this cafe was comforting?! What is a muffin lair exactly? I am totally reassured now about this test and can't wait to tell you all about it- or not- when it happens. In the meantime i will have a muffin or 2 kindly served and not talk too much because i still don't know if i am in the right place and it's a bit mindblowing!

oh, you are in the right place, alright
If you have lived your life always wondering 'what the heck is the matter with me?' and now think 'ah! so that's it!' you have found others that have experienced the same thing, with the same answer.
All that and a cup of coffee and a muffin, can life get any better?

welcome home.

Merle

Is this it? *holding out a haggis*

Well I will be! I am a "veteran" now and never knew of this cafe!

Thank you SinsBoldly for directing me here. Very nice.

I am older and later dx'ed and it's nice to see that I am not alone here.

So I will be hanging out in this cafe a bit more regualrly.

Thanks again! :-)

:) Greeting, jillier and Sorenna! New faces in the cafe are always welcome. Lau, put that thing away before you scare someone!! :P

Nan, I know I'm a little slow but thanks for the info on renting a car in Ireland. It all sounds very complicated and expensive and has made me think maybe staying in Scotland or Britain and simply making a day trip to Ireland would be the way to go. It's also good to hear they have a program for the Kid. Hopefully she makes a go of it.

I had applied for AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped. After some deliberation on their part, they have decided that the physical aspects aren't sufficient to make a decision. They had me sign forms consenting to be assessed by their team of psychologists. Apparently, they've decided to focus on the psychological aspects of Aspergers'. At the time it didn't seem like it would be an issue, until I received a call from the office that handles the assessments. It seems they expect a single mom of 4, who has never travelled alone and is terrified to do so, to spend 3 nights and 2 days alone in Calgary. The assessments will take two 8 hour days to complete. Even though they have offered to pay all expenses plus a little extra for my time, there is no way in heck I'm going to spend 2 days in a city where I know no one, and have to attempt to sleep in a strange hotel room alone. To say I'm angry would be an understatement. I think I'm going to call them and tell them it's a no go. I'm getting twitchy just thinking about it. :(

if haggis is on the menu i'm offski- although i'm a scot i would rather have curry! Now we are all here i was going to ask a question and i know what will happen if you think it's too serious! Did you all self refer- and if so- why did no one pick up on your problems, why did it take so long? Don't answer if you don't want to!

Hi Jillier. I nearly missed a fellow Scot there. I usually lurk in the cafe and only jump in when I
can think of something constructive to contribute !. I self diagnosed at the age of 47,after a life time of only thinking I was naturally reserved and eccentric. It was a Wikipedia article on
Einstein that led me surreptitiously to learn about Asperger's.
BTW I quite like haggis (the spicy microwaveable supermarket version) although I'd agree that
curry is preferable. Either that or the other popular local dish in Scotland,Chicken Chop Suey :)

thanks pluto, i am amazed at this cafe that has such potential for topical talk- although other forums may be more relevant, only you will know! Thanks for letting me know about you - you're a glaswegian! I had an epiphany (i'm not catholic) last year, until then i was not aware i was different, difficult to understand!
