Hi, I'm Ed, the son an American army officer, living in the East of England. I was born and raised here, but I've spent most of my life living on base - it's like something out of sci-movie - on one side of the fence is Little England all roses and Tea Parties, and on the other 100 feet away, it's small town America. We got American cars, spend dollars in the shops, we're mainly subject to American military and civilian law.

It's mega-trippy. My family has been involved in the military for 5 generations, and my uncle grew up here as well - and he was quite a famous singer once :-)

My Dad's retiring soon and wants me to go back 'home' when he leaves. I don't think so. I don't want to go somewhere I've never lived, where you get 3 years for smoking a joint.

So I'm staying on. I managed, somehow, and I don't know how, to get into Cambridge University to do a MAth degree. Yeah, freaky I know. I didn't even do my A levels until I was 27.

Any other Military Brats here?

Yo. The hippy son of a sailor and a WREN. Why can't you just use English currency? :?

Because it's an American military base. Someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to reduce paperwork, as you're not having to convert currencies on a daily basis to keep the books on the level. Bloody well annoying if you want a night on the town though...
