Is anyone unfortunate enough to be from Utah?

I live in SLC and am curious to know if anybody else is from around here. Is it really as bad as it seems?

My stepbrother and his wife lived in Utah for a while. They loved the beauty of the landscape but get my stepbrother talking about the intense conservative (he's a Republican btw) religious atmosphere and he starts turning colors and steam comes out of his ears. He's a church goer too. I think if you're not LD you're pretty much cut off. Just my impression. Are you going to school there?

If you aren't LDS here you barely exist. People barely talk to each other outside of church let alone socialize. It's a terrible little desert in my opinion but then I'm an outsider.

I've been to Utah before. The people there are as cold and indifferent to your presence as the people in Los Angeles.

Seanmw I visited Seattle and went to Deer Harbor in the Orcas Islands. I loved the ferries. The East coast just has these flat ugly barges but the ferries up there have coffee shops!

yup, seattle is a wonderful & interesting place. conveniently riding the ferry to seattle from where i live in bremerton is free. it's only coming back home that costs me about $7. if i had my own car, i'd prolly go more frequently. i could take the transit buses, but bus fare has gotten ridiculous. and often i don't have enough money to warrant wandering around seattle. window-shopping is nice, but going out there is a bit out of my way for window-shopping and i'd quickly get bored as hell. need to get a jobbb. =P

maybe it's just 'cause i'm used to them being around and take them for granted, but i find the ferries unimpressive. however doesn't mean i don't like them too :) . there's something cool about being on a ship with a cafe. like being on small cruise ship (not really) only the weather is never as nice as you'd want it to be and it's often a little on the crowded side. a mad dash to secure a window seat before they're all taken.

Yeah, Seattle is a beautiful town. I remember trying to drive up those 45 degree angle streets with a stick shift. 8O. I only saw Mt. Ranier once. The weather conditions have to be just right.

I'm born and raised utahn- slc. I'm LDS but DO not practice it. I haven't been to church for a year at all- mainly don't go to church because I work every other sunday n don't want to go to church on my day off the other weekends I am off.
Utah has a lot to offer. There are a lot of beautiful things here.

I'm from utah. A lot of areas its really if your not in the church your barely human, especially the small cities. But SLC and Ogden aren't that bad in this department but they make up for it in crime so it's not much of a trade off. I had a high school choir teacher that would only announce practices at church and then would dock those of us who didn't know about them for missing them. I think the biggest problem with things here though is it really is mostly a select few pulling this attitude and many people in the church are just oblivious to it.

One thing I will give this state is the mountains on the wasatch front are oddly comforting. I feel kind of weird when I travel now and there are no real mountains around.
