People might want to cheapen his Nobel prize, but frankly I feel it was given to him for being a black man elected president in Amerikkka.

While being replaced by a machine is never easy,
losing my job to a common office stapler has proven an especially difficult blow.

Good news, everyone! </Prof. Farnsworth>

I think I mentioned once that we were buying a house. The original loan broker was taking far too long, so H contacted someone else - and now, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, fax machines, and the fact that J was stateside for his father's death and thus available to sign papers, we closed on the house today! H will be home Wed night, will pick up the keys Thurs morning, and we start ferrying boxes right away (since we have this apartment until the end of the month anyway, might as well do it right and not break anything - or anyone). We get about $450 back from the lender (that's the difference between the cost of the loan and the amount that was financed), so there are the kids' beds, and J & H have a good one themselves - I'll make do until we can afford a new bed for me, but honestly, I'd rather sleep on the floor of our own house than in a bed next to a wall with neighbors tromping up and down stairs and having drunken arguments in the middle of the night on the other side...

And the program where the Army pays me to provide care for 'Gana is shifting to a civilian contractor, so both my hours and wage will be increasing, with the net effect of slightly more than doubling the stipend I will receive - not a lot, but it'll help cover the difference between the rent here and the mortgage payment! :)

Sometimes things just work out - now I'm mostly waiting for the other shoe to drop...

Lemon!! ! :D :cyclopsani:
Good to see you again, m'dear!

I'm fine. Just joking badly. The whole thing was apparently
just a huge mistake! My boss has called and apologized,
and is making amends by sending me on a vacation to
lovely remote and unpopulated Constant Shark Attack Beach!

Congrats on the new abode, Jon!
 ...and now the work begins! OY! :help:

(never trust those dadgum backstabbing staplers.)

Why I like the books by Tim Downs

Nick Polchak on “Decorating with style”

Nick reached around a corner and flipped a few switches and lights came on in the surrounding rooms. Straight ahead was a family room with an old natty sofa that faced an empty fireplace. The furniture, what there was of it, didn’t match. There was a coffee table in front of the sofa piled high at both ends with books and file folders, and an open laptop computer occupied the center.

Alena made a face. “Don’t they pay you at that college?”

“I could have hired a decorator, but I preferred to make a personal statement.”

“I could care less?”

“That’s the one.”

Alena looked to her left. The walls of that room were lined with metal utility shelves, the kind usually reserved for workshops and garages. Each of the shelves held at least two glass terrariums. Some of the terrariums glowed an eerie green, and misty water vapor clouded the glass sides.

“What’s in there?” Alena asked.

“That’s my arthropod collection.”

“Isn’t that supposed to be a dining room?”

“Why would arthropods need a dining room?”

From Ends of the Earth chapter 11

We do want Deacon Blues to decorate with style!

Yeah, other than the arthropod collection (which seems a bit redundant in western Washington - plenty of arthropods in the wild, especially the arachnids) that sounds pretty much like my personal style.

Maybe it's just as well that H will be making the decor decisions... :)

well, that sounds like a good idea of what to do with a dining room to me. mine is full of books and records. i think there's a table in there, somewhere, too. with matching chairs. that we never use.

cool jon!!
now we need a pic of your beautiful house of course :)

ha, i'm glad you're fine Chuck (well, i often don't understand what people here in the café talk about, it's such big blocks of text referring to 3529 things at the same time , ok, i do exagerate a little bit ...)
:)
