Just a brief post to say hello, just signed up today.
Please forgive any spelling and grammar errors I might make
I'm currently 'in the system' for my diagnosis as it were, wonder how long these things take, waiting is really frustrating!
Just about me, why i'm here..... start of July, I watched a DVD called, 'Outside In' (some may know it, from the NAS site) after a lifelong friend and man I looked up to when I was growing up, and i've got to say, I identify totally.
I've been to see my GP and been eventually referred to CLASS in Cambridge but i'm still waiting on my appointment, been a month now since referral to them. but ok, I appreciate they do other diagnosis, its a massive clinic and ok, huge huge workload, lots of people to see.
Why I believe I have Aspergers;

1)Social Interaction- Cannot dynamically meet new people, must plan in advance if going out etc. For example, I won't just decide, ok, i'm off out, I will have been planning in my mind what i'd be doing.

2) Special Interest - Ok, not going to hit it of with everyone but my knowledge on a particular subject is insane, in this case, Star trek NG, DS9 and Voyager. I can identify who all the cast members are, what parts they played and there's a good chance I can get the episode correct if given a brief synopsis, like the episode where Jean-Luc Picard gets is flute is called 'the inner light' where he was Kamin and his best friend was Batai (yep, just did that from memory).
Oh, I also like learning about history, especially WW1 and WW2 though any general learning on a big war will do too.

There is more but I said i'd keep it brief so again, hi all! :)

There are many places called Cambridge spread across the globe. It may well be different in your region, but for me it took about nine months from first speaking to my doctor to getting a diagnosis. It could also depend on you age.

I was referred to the Autism Initiative in Edinburgh where the pros and cons of the diagnosis process were discussed over a few months.

Then a psychiatrist in Falkirk - to rule out any other problems.

Then a long wait followed by three home visits one month apart.

Yes it is frustrating. I'm glad I did it.

R.

Yeah, i'm 28 and I seriously hope they pull their fingers out, i'm not a patient man.
Oh, its Cambridge, England and i'm not sure how i'd take to some of the things you've been through, seems you were all over the place, I wouldn't tolerate that

Hi all, re-opening an old post here ( hope no-one minds) i've now, as of today, been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (HFA), so i guess as its similar to Asperger Syndrome, I am officially on the autistic spectrum!

I too consider myself to be a "High Functioning Autistic" instead of having Asperger's syndrome. My speech
was delayed and I was evaluated and possibly diagnosed as autistic when I was little. But over the years
I acquired many if not all of the necessary self help and living skills. For info about me simply click my Blog
