What is your first name? Jess.

Age: 31.

Location: lost in the great Southwest (USA)

Hobbies and Interests: I do a great deal of role-playing (the character whose name and pic I used for my SN and avatar) at another forum and in one-on-one live chat with a friend. I'm currently working with that friend on designing a new RPG setting/system, and I'll be writing a novel(s) about our characters to go with it, all in hopes of eventual publication. In learning about AS for myself, I realized my character also has it, and more extreme in some areas---he's quite the "different" one, lol, and it affects his youth and relationships and views. I love the fantasy genre in general, and enjoy thinking/writing/discussing the issue of the nature of morality across worlds/settings, as well as getting inside the perspectives of "different" characters. I also collect way more wonderful-looking exotic recipes than I could ever use, though I do enjoy culinary experimentation (I hate standard packaged American food).

Why are you here? I've asked God that many times, but about the only answer I seem to get is "Just wait..." :P I'm looking into the notion of an AS community because I've encountered only one other person that I was fairly sure had it---that was in 6th grade, and we were both so odd and asocial we never exchanged two words   I much prefer writing over talking in person anyway.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Undiagnosed. I learned of the existence of AS while taking an Education class in college that dealt with special-needs kids from a teacher perspective. I thought it seemed to fit me, but it was only a few days ago (a decade after college) that I suddenly read up on AS in detail online and was stunned. It was such a perfect fit, and explained so much. I never knew all those things about me fit together, lol.

Favorite subjects: English, art, science. Philology sounds ideal, but it's dead as a field of study....

Year/Grade: Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design

Favorite music: Certain examples of ska, darkwave, and industrial. Other genres/bands at times---ranging from Enya to Third Day---depending on my mood or what I'm doing.

Books: The Belgariad and The Malloreon (David Eddings)---absolute favorite! Seriously, I think I've read each series a dozen times. I also really enjoy most of Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, and the earlier volumes of Piers Anthony's Xanth series. David B. Coe's "Winds of the Forelands" series is marvelous, and was a surprise to me because it's not my usual thing. For stand-alone novels, Barbara Hambly's Dragonsbane, Carol Berg's Song of the Beast, and Ray Bradbury's classic Fahrenheit 451 are my utter favorites.

TV shows/Movies: Overall, I hate TV (pop culture, yuck), but I really enjoyed "Monk" while Sharona was there. I like the Simpsons, but rarely watch. I was so intrigued by a YouTube music video someone made with scenes from Sci Fi's "Tin Man" miniseries that I ordered the DVD set online without having seen any more of it than that, and I was absolutely delighted with it (only wish was longer for more character development). I really, really enjoyed the recent movie "Daybreakers"---marvelous visual storytelling, great balance of delicacy and necessary brutality, and a nice look at what makes a monster and what makes an ordinary frightened/harried person.

Instrument: Violin, though I haven't played in forever. Always wanted to play cello, to wrap around it and feel the music resonate through me....

Do you like sports? I like air hockey, even if I'm my own worst enemy. I can't say how much I despise team sports with all my soul. Forcing children to engage in them in school should be classified as child abuse :P (lol)

Family: Parents divorced when I was in college and both remarried since then. I have a younger brother who seems NT. I hated that poor kid, growing up....I was a horrible sister, lol. Things instantly got better between us once I moved out to college and he was no longer in my territory.

Clothing: Comfortable and fairly practical, but I like to look nice too. For me, that means a distinctly feminine touch, but not "floofy" or too soft-looking. I love tasteful little understated accents of sparkles :D (actually, I'd love to be encrusted with rainbow crystals, but something tells me it would look a little tacky). I've been known to wear a pastel Eyore shirt into Hot Topic to oggle (and buy) the awesome jewelry there.

How did you find this website? I saw an online ad for that Temple Grandin movie, and out of curiosity looked up her name. From there I got a lot more detail on AS than I ever had before, and realized I'm the only person I know who totally understands the hug box and thinks it's a marvelous idea and probably would never have thought of it, lol. And WP was listed in the Wikipedia information, and I figured I'd give it a look.

Job: Very content as a housewife and aspiring novelist/RPG designer.

Plans for the future? Doing more on that RPG setting/system project, hopefully getting it and a novel(s) published (I also have an unrelated fantasy series I've been working on for nearly a decade, building its world and a fantasy language from the ground up).

Any comments? With only a little bit of exploration so far, I already feel like my brain is fitting in here, lol. Weird feeling. I've found places/groups before where certain of my interests or views were shared, but it's a different feeling when it's certain mental patterns that are shared. Hard to describe when I'm up way too late at night and suddenly starting to get very tired right now, which sucks most of the linguistic thought/usage right out of my head....
