Hi all.
Have just discovered this site after session with work / life counsellor today.
I am an aspie and have ADHD. It's real fun at times.
Married for 28 years, 9 children - 2 diagnosed with some aspie traits and ADHD. Just found out my wife has also been diagnosed as an aspie but from other end of spectrum. Reference to "Get Smart", my wife is from Control and I am from Kaos(chaos).
Work for large confectionery/chocolate company in Melbourne.
Product / process innovation and development is what I do best. Year end review has prompted me to join up and post.
Don't you hate it when the rules change. I am a sort of manager without anyone to manage. This review is the first to state that I need to work on my self awareness, my environment radar and my range of influence. For the past 7 years my previous managers have understood my limitations. This new manager doesn't know, is not really interested in knowing, and says that all persons at the level I am at in the company must do well at the 3 items above or find a new job.
The fact that my "left field" ideas have resulted in millions of dollars in new product sales and factory efficiency savings doesn't seem to matter. VERY FRUSTRATING.

I can imagine... I'm an aspie married to a man with ADHD. I have parents/siblings with different forms of these two.

Oh, dear... you have my full sympathy. Your new manager is an idiot.

Hello Dadelus, Chocolate is my favorite thing in the World. sounds like you have a wonderful family. I am also sorry to hear about the Jerk entering you life, especially after you have contributed so much. You keep your head up and try not to allow him to get to you because that's what miserable Jerks like him set out to do. He will get his due someday. I hope to see you in the Forum. Take Care! :)

Welcome to WP Dadelus- I love your name! I sympathize with your predicament as you sound like an asset to any company. Change is hard for all of us. Good bosses recognize a "diamond in the rough" when they have it. It sounds like yours is not in that category. I hope that he will come to appreciate your strengths more than your "weaknesses" (sorry-hate using that word in this case). I think your strengths probably are more important than your social impairment, as is true for most engineer types.

This new mangaer is not a bad sort but is more of a generalist whereas I am a specialist. I have come up with some inhouse career pathway documentation that says my company needs both types. Now I need to engage him to explain that I am happy to be a "thought leader / deeply skilled" in my particular field rather than a "functional leader" managing people and strategy.
