My name is Shirley and I live in Cornwall in the UK. I have also lived in Michigan in the US. Also in Hawaii, California, New York, etc until the age of 12. My mother is Cornish and my father a naturalised American born in Cornwall. I have two children, a girl aged thirteen and a boy aged twelve. The boy was diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers and a "tic" disorder, possibly tourettes. I have been with my partner, their father, for fifteen years now.

Since my son's diagnosis, I feel it is very likely I also have Aspergers. I have always known there was something "wrong" or different about me. I seem to have often been treated differently from other people, but never been able to figure out why. I have a high IQ and did well academically at school, but have not been very successful with my career. I have worked as a bookkeeper and accounting technician in a variety of jobs until around three years ago when I decided to leave to help my partner with his window fitting and repair business, be able to give more attention to my children,particularly my son Gideon, and start a small Ebay trading business.

I too have high IQ, good at school but crap at career - seems like it is an Aspie's lot in life. Maybe I am the only postman with a PhD!!
My AS only came to light as a result of my 4 yr old son being diagnosed with autism. Now my 2 yr old son is going through assessment.
We are neighbours by the way as you can guess from my nickname.
