hi, i'm 41 and recently self-diagnosed with as. i have been married for 11 years and have a 5 y/o son(who seems to have some AS qualities), but i'm not sure my wife can tolerate me anymore :( the difficulties i encountered in my marriage were the driving force that helped me to discover that i have AS. it has brought me much relief to find a label that brings understanding to me about my life. i work as a professional and my recent job change has brought me into an alien social arena, which of course is causing me much stress. i am an obsessive motorcycling fanatic but i'm not sure i even like motorcycling per say as much as i like the escape it provides for me. it also requires the intense focus i need to keep my mind free from the daily troubles i ponder.

Welcome! My partner is 42 and also recently self diagnosed. Well, I guessed and told him about AS after a lot of research.

Our relationship was very difficult for years, but knowing about AS and understanding the differences has really helped. Get your wife in here too, there are a few of us girls with Aspie men who'll totally understand how it is for her. It can be very isolating being with an Aspie if you don't understand what's going on (and just as weird for you being with an NT, of course!)

This place is great, you'll love it here :D

I hope she will want to learn more, it makes all the difference. Our relationship was in a bad way for years, but since I've come to understand his AS it's no longer an issue. Life is great these days! Now I know he isn't being awkward or difficult, he just sees things in a different way. We can laugh about our differences and find ways to work them out. It's been fun... :D

Hi Walktheline.

Hello AmeliaJane too!

I am 47 y.o. male, married 21 yrs. Its good to see more older people here.

I joined WP only recently, and after a flurry of posts, decided that there are not many people my age or circumstatnces here and have looked in other forums and sites. WP seems best. Anyway, the posts by younger members lets me see how far I've come.

My sons (2) likewise have some of my traits, but are not aspie. Both are good at sports (represent the State in one of the football codes).

I have a theory that there is a high turnover of high functioning aspies here. We come in looking for self understanding, find it then move on. There are a number of sad cases here (who according to my theory never move on). Sometimes it made me doubt whether I am actually AS, because my problems are no where as bad as some here.

So, I am happy to meet someone else like me.

Kind regards

Blackduck

P.S. - Good to see you again Captain.
