you certainly look the part in spades. you remind me of my drill sergeants, in terms of the no-nonsense countenance and bearing.
i would have been the last person anybody would believe the army would take. but they took me. but i really had no business being anywhere near uncle sam's army. i looked ludicrous in my BDUs, hanging all baggy off my anorexic totally non-muscular frame. all my fellow GIs thought of me as nothing more than a civilian in disguise.

i was conscripted. stayed for 5 months. didnt know about aspergers, so it was a strange mix between cool and horrible to be there.

i'm sorry, i can tell this grates on you. the army exceeded my frame's ability to cope over the long term. i made it through basic [barely] but to this day i have joint issues and back issues, but not specific sufficient to convince a medical board. IOW, you may have found that running 10+ miles back and forth from the range in full [for basic] "battle rattle" might have done a delayed number on your knees regardless.

I'm very shy - hard for me to look at people (or camera, in this case)

Thanks. I do wear fishnet stockings with my lab coat on special occasion. My lab coat is embroidered with "The Lab Pet."
