My name is Kyle, I'm 23 year old college student, going for game design. I was diagnosed with Aspies about 8 years ago. It's cool to see a big community out here on the web about all this.

What college? Please don't tell me its Westwood College. They have a long history of being sued because they're a fraudulent diploma mill swindle. I hope you have signed on with a legitimate college. Aside of other lawsuits -- the federal government charged them and weaslewood coughed up six million in fines but refused to admit any wrongdoing, and right now a class action suit is being worked up against them.

Peeps, beware online college frauds.

My hope (again) is that you're in a legitimate accredited college.

My advise, start right now and doing some additional research. Look for lawsuits against them, etc. This doesn't look good. They're charging you the tuition of Harvard University.
I learned the hard way. Long, long story but I'm part of that class action suit against Westwood College for some of the same reasons listed below and Google has news item upon news item on ITT Tech. Comparatively, Westwood left its students piled neck deep in debt, with a worthless piece of paper (Weaslewood is not even properly accredited). A nightmare for the students who graduated 10's thousands in debt, and were told the certificate wasn't recognized by employers and the certificate not transferrable.

I'm not familiar with ITT.. but I beware these kind of colleges.
Community college is best (300$ per term at a fully-accredited institution vs. $4500 per term through these kind of diploma mills). What's sad, they're funnelling the funds directly from the federal government through student loan programs. WHEN will the federal government crack down on these schemes? Exploiting the student loan and education system...

ITT Technical Institute - ITT-Tech is a Diploma Mill - Period ! !! Oct 16, 2009 ... ITT-Tech panders to students who could barely make it through high school (for the most part) by swindling them out of their hard-earned ...
itt-technical-institute.pissedconsumer.com › ... › Schools

How much is tuition for ITT Tech?
I'm a student at ITT Technical Institute in Duluth, GA. It costs roughly $25,000 per year, but it includes tuition, books, tutoring, and your instructors' undivided attention. It's a good school for an Associates Degree, but DON'T go there for a Bachelor's Degree. The bachelor program is ALL online classes.
~ wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_is_tuition_for_ITT_Tech

(( For those who financially qualify, Community college also can be paid for through FAFSA, and not only your books paid, your tuition, money is left over that must never be repaid to help you on expenses such as transportation... and upon completing your Associate degree, you can pay for tuition in a legitimate State University. As the news video reveals, -- the cost of ONE YEAR at a diploma mill = FOUR YEARS at the University of Austin, Texas.

If I only knew then, what I know now. Westwood ripped me off for 25,000 in just one year, (and that included students studying gaming), 25 Grand sucked down the tubes in just one year -- their lies of grants/scholarships and loans I'd never have to repay... a huge lie, after one year I received the invoice stating I owed 25 Grand in student loans. I withdrew, immediately... despite their arm-twisting and finangling, I told them to REMOVE ME from their program.

They robbed me of the opportunity to spend that 25 Grand on a four-year college and earn a legitimate Bachelor of Science at the University of North Carolina. They lied to me and claimed they were fully accredited. A lie... an evil lie.

Today, former students are involved in a class action suit against these blood-sucking parasites.

I don't know about ITT Tech... but 25 Grand is way TOO MUCH to pay for one lousy year at a technical college. It's not Harvard University, there's no excuse.

Is ITT Tech. Institute a school that is worth going to, or... - Q&A ITT Tech and similar schools are rip offs, offering a technical education that will become obsolete in a few years while charging tuition that is comparable ...

The Truth About Westwood College from ABC
Westwood College is not a regionally accredited school. Westwood's credits will not be accepted by other colleges. Westwood's high tuition, $70,000 to $80,000 is supplemented by their own in-house student loan at 18% interest. Many of the graduates Westwood claims to gain 'employment in their field of study' actually get jobs AT Westwood College for a brief period of time.

Well, I'm almost out of there so yeah... xD
I knew they had some issues but my Associates degree was actually a good experience and I learned a lot. My bachelors degree I had some bad teachers but most part I'm learning something. When I get out me and my classmates are thinking about making our own games first to get some more experience.

One story that was shared with me, was a young man in his early 20's -- fresh out of Westwood College, oweing an astronomical 50 Grand, in student loans, and the credits wouldn't transfer to the University he wanted to attend.

How does a 20 year old pay off 50,000 + in tuition?
Impossible....
Who was holding his tuition bill? Sallie Mae ... which was investigated by CBS 60 Minutes -- an entire hour dedicated to exposing their extreme "predatorial banking" tactics. Neck deep in reports of fraud and blatant abuses... harrassing people to a point of suicide.

Double checked to see if ITT Tech was financed through Sallie Mae.

ITT Technical Institute (often shortened to ITT Tech) is a private, for-profit, technical institute with 108 campuses in 38 states of the United States.[4] ITT Tech is owned and operated by ITT Educational Services, Inc. (NYSE: ESI), a publicly traded company. ITT Educational Services, Inc. (ESI) was spun off by ITT Corporation through an initial public offering (IPO) in 1994, with parent company ITT as an 83% shareholder.[5] ITT Tech licenses the "ITT" name from ITT Corporation, which originates from the latter company's original name "International Telephone & Telegraph".

Cost
A two-year associate's degree at ITT Tech costs approximately $40,000. Out of concern that students at ITT Tech and other for-profit vocational schools are taking on unsustainable levels of debt, the Department of Education is considering new regulations that would restrict students at for-profit vocational schools from taking out more debt than their future employment prospects would justify.[8]

Controversies
ITT Technical Institute has been involved in several controversies over its business and academic practices.
In August 1998, 15 former students alleged misrepresentation, fraud and concealment by ITT arising out of their recruitment and education at ITT campuses. In September 1998, ITT settled all of the claims of the 15 claimants.[9]
On February 25, 2004, federal agents raided the company's headquarters and 10 of its campuses.[10] The investigation negatively affected the company's stock and triggered several class action lawsuits by investors.[11][12]
In October 2005, ITT agreed to pay $725,000 to settle a lawsuit with California in which employees alleged that it inflated students’ grade point averages so they qualified for more financial aid from the State of California.[13]

I wish you the best with your life if this college hasn't already swindled you out of it, and enslaved you to a lifetime of repaying a loan you will never be able to afford to repay.

In light of all the bad news I posted, _this news item was just sent to me_ by somebody I know...

Sounds like the federal government has been listening to some of the consumer complaints involving student loan fraud.

Excerpts from : USNEWS.COM New Hope For Debtors

Quote:
New Hope for Debtors Struggling With Student Loans
By Kim Clark
Posted May 3, 2010
Hundreds of thousands of Americans who fall behind in their bills and seek refuge by filing for bankruptcy get a distressing surprise: If they are willing to ruin their credit for years, they can walk away from their houses, turn in their cars, and wipe out their credit card bills, but they typically can't erase a penny of their student debts.
Of course, the vast majority of Americans who use loans to pay for college get jobs and pay their debts. But the recent economic troubles and spike in unemployment have caused thousands of graduates to fall behind on their student loan payments. More than 20 percent of students who took out expensive private loans in the last several years to pay for tuition at some for-profit colleges have defaulted. The government reports that 6.7 percent of those who took federal student loans in 2007 have already defaulted, up from 4.6 percent in 2005. And many analysts predict more Americans will have trouble paying their student loan bills in the coming months.
/..../
Quote:
Recent developments in Washington hold out new hopes for anyone struggling with student loans, however. Several Congressional Democrats, including Minnesota Sen. Al Franken and Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, are pushing for a reform to allow those who file for bankruptcy to get out from under at least some of their private educational loans.
"In this economy, we want to be encouraging people to invest in their education and their future," Franken said in a press release. "That's why it is more important than ever for people to be able to get a fresh start."
If the plan wins Congressional approval, it would mark the third big improvement in student loans in the last year, student groups say.
Last summer, the federal government started allowing those with federal student loans to cap their payments below 15 percent of their income, and it promised to forgive some of the debts of public servants, and those with low incomes. Earlier this year, Congress beefed up the new "Income-Based Repayment" plan so that those who take out federal student loans after 2014 can cap their payments below 10 percent of their income.
In March, the Supreme Court set a small but hopeful precedent for borrowers. It backed a borrower who had persuaded a bankruptcy judge to reduce his federal student loan debt, rebuffing attempts by a collector to reinstate the entire debt.

/..../ Wachovia has refused her efforts to negotiate an affordable payoff plan, and keeps adding interest and fees to her original $36,000 private loan. Today, she figures she owes Wachovia $53,000. "I send them whatever I can afford each month--usually about $120," but she says collection agencies "still call and threaten to send my account for wage garnishment. I live in constant fear that the hammer will one day drop and ruin my life and any hope for my son's future. It's a scary, hopeless feeling."

Well, thanks for all the info. My parents helped pay for my associates and my bachelors doesn't seem to be too much so I guess I got one of the better ITTs. But if I find any issues I'll be sure to take care of it. =D
And Thanks everyone for welcoming me.
