Cripes, you can afford a home in Fairfax at age 23? I'm jealous, heh. I'm not going to consider buying in this area until it becomes a reasonable deal relative to renting, personally. That should give me plenty of time to build up a down payment, at any rate.

I'm lucky, though perhaps not lucky enough.

The problem right now is that the inventory is extremely low. I found a two bedroom condo over the weekend that I really liked. It had been on the market for two days and already had 9 contracts on it. It's absolutely ridiculous. Even if you can afford to pay over the listed price, have cash ready, and are willing to wave an appraisal, you have to get in line.

Hopefully warm weather will get people moving a little bit.

First name: Matthew

Age: 21

Location: The Center of the Universe (Massachusetts to non-locals ^_~)

Hobbies and Interests: history, science, internet, reading, writing, river rafting

Why are you here? That's a question I leave to the philosophers.

On this website because it seems like a good idea at the time. Seriously though, I'm also curious. I know I'm wired differently than most people, and I know I fit much of the profile for Asperger's (though I despise how people label anyone different these days as having some kind of disease, hence why I just say I'm wired differently). So really, I just want to see if I can meet more people who are more like me in how they think.

First diagnosed: ADD at age 11.

Favorite subjects: History

Year/Grade: Almost finished with my Associates in History, then going back to college to go for the Bachelors some time next Winter.

Favorite music: the non-sucking kind of music. If it sounds good, I'll like it. It sounding good is entirely subjective to my own god-like (asnine) opinions.

Books: Neuromancer, The Screwtape Letters, Starship Troopers, Armor, The Forever War, Farenheit 451, just about anything by H.P. Lovecraft

TV shows/Movies: TV wise, not a big fan. I like the occassional anime, some of my favorites right now are Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Not too fond of American programming however.

Except for Invader Zim. ^_^

Movie wise... have a weird fondness for war/military movies. Glory, Das Boot, Band of Brothers, Hunt for Red October, etc.

Instrument: do the spoons count?

Sports: I'm about the antithesis of athletic. In the words of a friend of mine, "Your philosophy has always been no pain, no pain." Sports, on their own, kind of bore me.

Family: Parents (no kidding), couple of younger sisters. Parents are... quirky and kind of eccentric in a good harmless way. The siblings think the rest of us are insane.

Clothing: Yes, I wear clothing. Since, in the words of Mark Twain, "Naked people have little or no influence on society." They usually consist of jeans and a plain t-shirt (if Nike wants me to wear their logo on my chest they're going to have to pay me, damnit).

How did you find this website? Wikipedia had a link in the stuff under Asperger's.

Job: I work at a movie theatre. Strangely, I'm more sane than half the staff.

Plans for the future: Global conquest and rule under my iron fist. Mwahaha.

Really, though, I'm really not sure right now. That bothers me a lot. I like having a goal to strive for, a prize for which I'm bothering devoting my efforts towards in school. I'm dreading the possibility of ending up in a corporate or law office. Probably because I'd be good at it. I want to do something more creative, like game design or something.

Comments: More of a heads up, really. I have a strange sense of humor, as kind of seen here.

Playing your strengths, isn't it
wonderful, and I commend you
for it.

I have always wanted to visit
Scotland. What is it like up
there from a non-touristy point
of view?

Generally, speech/language delays are connected more with Autism than Aspergers I believe. With my son, at around the age of 1-2 he began "losing" his language, the little that he had by then. He lost his ability to keep any sort of eye contact as well, became very withdrawn, had tantrums when any change was forced upon him and it was only ocassionally that I thought he even noticed that I, or anyone else was alive. He was in his own world. (This of course happened over a period of time, gradual enough for me to try to think it was something he would "grow out of" until it was bad enough that the fact that something was very wrong just could not be ignored.)

You should look at CDD, Childhood Disintegrative disorder. Autism is connected with speech/language delay not reversal.

It is a big place so I don’t know much of it. I spend most of my time in Glasgow. It is not as bad as everyone says it is (Glasgow has the highest rate of knife attack in Europe). I stick to the nice areas and don’t walk about alone after 1 or 2 in the morning and I have never seen any trouble. All the violence seems to be between gangs in parts of town I would never want to go. In the nice parts it is a really nice city. I still have trouble understanding the accent. Most of the towns out side Edinburgh and Glasgow are not very nice apart from the tourist ones.

I was reading hostel guides for
travellers and in the Isles Skye
and the Hebrides(mispelled) their
is gaelic(isles), and (?)protestant attitudes?

Here is a quip on stromness(mispelled),
"To get to this hostel you pass this
bridge, DO NOT CROSS IT(implying
they do not like strangers) and
mostly early industrial places and
visitors are not really welcome,
yet they need our dollars.
The Parks are locked up, and all shops
on Sabbath Sundays.

any ways, I have done some research
and found that the major cities, Glascow
and Edinburgh were two worlds apart.
Glascow(crime as you also noted)
and Edinburgh(Art based).

I am right now rambling because I don't
know were to take this. I hope you can
give me some ideas since I find that
country fascinating.

May there be some facinating dialogue
from me to you.

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

Leon,

If you look at page 7 or 8 of the picture thread, you will see a couple pictures of the school bus I drive. It is a AmTrans Genesis model from 1993 (should be retired this year or next year).

What type of powerplants do those buses uses?

All the school buses I rode had Carpenter (older buses) or Thomas (Newer Buses) bodies with International Harvester frames accompanied by International Harvester I-1800 diesel engines in both the turbo and non-turbo charged variations.

I preferred the non-turbo charged versions. The noise they made wasn't as harsh as the turbo versions.

I would actually have to look at the size of the engine but I do know it is an International Diesel Turbo Engine.

AmTrans is simply the maker of the chassis. Same as Blue Bird and Thomas.

Amtran is the maker of the body, not the chassis...the chassis here is International...and BTW, Amtran's website is at http://www.ic-corp.com.

And I've had various types of buses, but most were Type As...the last 3 years, I had a Crown Cadet, though...go to Jake's School Bus Forum(google it)for more info about my school district's current fleet.

P. S. Your bus probably had a DT466 engine.

BTW, go to http://members.aol.com/schoolbusyard and click on the Carpenter section...the first bus pic that is linked on, click on it, that is one of my district's buses which is now retired.

Age: 16

Location: London, UK

Hobbies and Interests: Music - listening to and producing; friends; relaxing; reading; running; CCF (army cadets)

Why are you here? I have mild Dyspraxia (they say mild, but some days it's really bad) and they used to think I had ADHD.

When were you diagnosed? When I was about 10, 1998

Favorite subjects: Latin

Year/Grade: year 12/lower 6th form

Favorite music: Radiohead, Wheatus, pop-rock, punk rock, indie rock, ska punk, a number of other in between genres.

Books: About A Boy (Nick Hornby), all books by Douglas Coupland, High Fidelity (Nick Hornby), all books by Aidan Chambers.

TV shows/Movies: don't watch TV or movies much, because I can't seem to remember who people are by their faces, so it makes watching TV/movies difficult and boring.

Instrument: I play both electric and acoustic guitar, and I used to play violin till I was 12.

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I do Shooting. I don't really like active sports, because I couldn't co-ordinate them as a kid, so I got rejected by all the teams. I didn't learn to catch a ball till I was 10.

Family: Mum, dad, 20 year old sister who is at university.

Clothing: Casual unless I'm at school, when it's 'smart and business like' apparently. I wear jeans, t-shirts... just casual.

How did you find this website? from 171NewYork

Job: I used to babysit sometimes. I've done some paid work on computers for my mum, and doing household DIY and stuff for my parents. But otherwise, don't work.

Plans for the future? The future scares me. I need to decide what to do, but I have no idea, which is a problem.

Any comments? No not really. I wonder how many people actually know what Dyspraxia is though...
