Why are you here? Honestly? Boredom. and the comfort of there being a place where I can talk about certain things I couldn't anywhere else...

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): When I was 12, just before I started Secondary School

Favorite subjects: History, English, Media

Year/Grade: Will be starting 4th year in September. Don't know the equivalent in other countries.

Favorite music: Whatever makes my ears happy.

Books: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Hitchiker's Guide, Angela's Ashes

TV shows/Movies: Arrested Development, Spaced, Futurama, Pushing Daisies | Almost Famous

Instrument: Drums.

Do you like sports? Nope.

Family: Parents, 2 sisters, one older one younger. My younger sister has special needs. I have 5 aunts (3 on my mother's side, 2 on my dad's side) and one uncle (on my dad's side). Three of my grandparents are still alive. My grandfather on my mother's side died before I was born. I'm not going to bother to count all my cousins. I have a lot.

Clothing: Whatever I think looks and feels right on me. Mainly just wear a t-shirt, jeans and jumper/hoodie.

How did you find this website? I actually don't remember, I've known about this website for a long time... must have been from googling about aspergers one day.

Job: Unemployed. I'm still young.

Plans for the future? I want to move somewhere. I'm thinking Canada, possibly. I have family there and every time I've visisted I've felt much more at home than I did here.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I don't officially have aspergers, but I'm pretty sure that I do or I am on the border (what are borders on a spectrum, anyway?)
I was diagnosed with ADHD in fourth grad combined type and Learning Disability NOS (Auditory Processing) around ninth grade, and a rote processing disorder about a year ago. But I've also been diagnosed with depression, OCD, and GAD. When I was a kid I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and I am beginning to think that I am not as over it as I thought. I know that you have to watch differential diagnoses. I'm just pretty sure I am further on the spectrum than diagnosed.

Favorite subjects:
Psychology, Neuroscience, Feminist Theory

Year/Grade:
2nd year PhD student in Cognitive Neuroscience

Favorite music: Is most anything too cliche? My favorite band is the faint, but I really like Vivaldi.

Plans for the future? : Researcher and Professor at a research 1 school. I want to study the cognitive neuroscience of "learning disabilities" so schools and parents are better equipped to teach to neurodiverse people. From ASD to Dyslexia. My current research is in Dyslexia.

Why are you here? My son and I are both on the spectrum. I also have agoraphobia, which makes it hard for me to socialize outside of the house. So I'm here for socialization, mostly.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Last year, shortly before I turned 24.

Favorite subjects: English, and in college, Japanese.

Year/Grade: I'm technically a freshman in college. Sort of.

Favorite music: I listen to far too many genres to pick a favorite. I like beats and rhythm.

Books: I read fantasy, horror, and nonfiction reference books about gardening, keeping fish and reptiles, and home and car repair.

TV shows/Movies: I don't watch TV.

Instrument: Cello, and violin.

Hobbies and Interests: Well, I like anything to do with computers, although I don't really do much with computers as a "hobby" anymore...mainly just that's what I want to get a career in. TV/Music/Movies also interest me, as well as my girlfriend Morgan

Why are you here? Because I was looking for someplace to talk with other people that would be related to me.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Never diagnosed. Found out that I had many Aspergerian symptoms about 3 years ago though.

Favorite subjects: Computers, Math, Physics

Year/Grade: College Freshman

Favorite music: depends on what I'm in the mood for. But NOT country. or classical.

Books: thriller/suspense books. Anything by Ted Dekker

TV shows/Movies: too many to name. As for movies, I like comedies and thriller/suspense movies.

I kinda feel bad for making an entire topic to introduce myself now that I see this. I have a hard time reading through stickies when there are more than 4, bad habit I know.

Hobbies and Interests: Cars, Mecha, Star Trek, Philosophy (mostly involving mortality), Fitness

Why are you here? Felt like I needed a change of scenery, I almost always am on at least one forum and I'm almost always not very welcome there. mods, admins, etc love me USUALLY but everyone else is hit or miss. I figure it might be because I'm different so I'm trying to identify with people I share more in common with than mere hobbies

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): early high school, took 2-3 years of psychology for them to figure anything about me besides I was smart, depressed and had a short attention span and temper to match (don't even remember if they labeled me ADD officially or just threw it out there)

Favorite subjects: Elementary Math (+-*/) after middle school I couldn't hardly understand any of it
Social Studies (especially economics, it was pretty much common sense to me)
Shop/Weighlifting/PE

Year/Grade: Graduated HS, completed a year of technical school and never went to college. Currently not in

Favorite music: No specific genre, the more I like a genre the more I dislike the majority of the music. I may say I like Death Metal but I can name 100 death metal bands I hate and probably 5 that are in my top 10 bands period. It's easier to say I like specific bands except for the fact that I like over 300 of them.

Books: Enders Game, Artemis Foul, basically anything with dark overtones and an adolescent genius protagonist

TV shows/Movies: Star Trek, The Fast and the Furious, superhero movies, Home Room (a MUST watch if you ask me), basically anything with a moral

Instrument: I sing real good, music isn't for me to make though

Do you like sports? Watching, no. Playing, as long as it's not soccer or something.

Family: I live with my girlfriend, I have a mom and dad, 2 brothers one of which I love and the other I am still trying to see eye to eye with

Clothing: I honestly only have like one pair of pants that fits, I try to avoid wearing a shirt because I can easily overheat during physical activity. I dress fairly uniquely, one day it's a John Deere shirt and blue jeans that look like Rob Zombie wore them for a couple years and the next it's camo pants and a shirt that tells people I'm crazy

Hobbies/Interests: Jeet Kune Do, Intuitive Healing, Unorthodox Archaeology & History, Science, Consciousness, Social Matters, Reading like a bot! maya12-21-12forum.

Why am I here? Meet some link-minded folks, maybe talk a little about difficulties in social interaction, not just on a personal level! The populace of this world are mad & we need to save them!

Favourite Subjects: PE, Art, I was a whizz at maths, but the class was dull (could'nt speak at all)

Pretty much dropped out of playing the school game by the time I was 13. Missed half my exams, not sure of grades, can't be good. I was just too intelligent & independent minded, school does'nt cater for genius!

Favourite Music: Tend to listen to alot of Reggae, Dub n Jungle, bit of Hip Hop now n again (KRS One, Public Enemy, Mos Def,etc), classical on the odd occasion. All the good 60's n 70's stuff.

Books: Phillip Pullmans Dark Materials Trilogy, Dune series, Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings, Herman Hesse books, Kahlil Gibran, but mostly I read books on 'Alternative' Archaeology, Philosophy, Science, Medecine, History & Religion.

I watch loads of documentaries on the web, along the same lines as mentioned above. Favourite films include District 9, Close Encounters, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Kung Fu Hustle, Dead Man, The Haunting (60's B&W version), Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Last King of Scotland, Dark Knight, Time Bandits, The Shining, Aliens, Assassination of Jesse James, Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Dark Crystal, Star Wars pts IV, V, VI, I, III.

I have a voice, but scared of using it.

Like Sports? Yes, love sparring (Kung Fu), Football n Boxing.

Family: Have 1 brother 17 months older, one sister 12 years younger, another sister who I never lived with, she's 15, 3 more half brothers ages 28, 26 & 24. Have 3 kids who lives with their mum, ages 17, 15 & 12. Son & 2 daughters.

How did I find this site? I looked for it after doing an online AQ test, my score was in the mid to high level of high funtioning aspergers.

Job: not if I can help it, although I'm not a complete slacker I just enjoy freedom, more than money & a dead end job! I could do anything, I learn at a phenominal rate, IQ above 150.

Why are you here? I am here because I am a person who is on the autism spectrum. I joined this site because I don't really find too many people like myself around in real life.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Diagnosed in the 8th grade, and I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Since then I have been able to overcome my limitations for social skills and largely closed the gap. I am, at the very least, now socially competent for most situations. I've also been able to use my obsessions toward more positive goals, such as pursuing a degree in the sciences and social activism.

Favorite subjects: Physics, Astronomy, Biology, History, Philosophy, Science Fiction

Year/Grade: Completed my junior year in college.

Favorite music: Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Happy Hardcore

My main interest for the past several years has been an activity called quiz bowl. It is activity largely based on learning, memorization, facts, and trivia. It can be a pretty good activity for someone with Asperger's (at least it was for me).

I also play some contract bridge, although not as much as I used to.

I like to go running, and I used to play tennis.

Why are you here? I was searching for information about Asperger's and found this site.

When were you diagnosed? I am unsure if I have Asperger's. A lot of symptoms seem to indicate I have Asperger's or am at least borderline but have not been officially diagnosed. I am hoping to see a psychiatrist or doctor about this sometime soon.

Year/Grade: Almost done with college (need to finish up one class).

Favorite music: Rock, Pop, Country, Rap, and some other stuff.

Books: I generally prefer non-fiction over fiction.

Do you like sports?: Yes.

Family: Only child. I am also single and I don't have any kids.

Any comments? I'm trying to learn all I can to help Joshua succeed in life. He is doing private speech therapy, Occupational Therapy, utilizing the Floor Time Model, Vision therapy and in Developmental Pre-school. I also have him on the GAPS diet, a Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

There is so much to learn and sort out and I appreciate all that I can learn from those who have walked this journey ahead of us.
