Hi,
I think that I am an Aspie (obviously undiagnosed). I recently met a friend (online, of course) who started telling me about her Aspie son, and the description fit me so well as a child. I took the AQ test and scored 44, so I am pretty sure that says something. Obviously I am very lonely - I am married but my marriage is very unhappy for me. My husband just gets over it when we have a fight, but I dwell on tiny little details of everything that was said for days on end. I'm going to see a shrink in a month because I am so depressed I can't take it anymore.
I also have someone that I am seeing on the side. He's a good friend, but we go out alone and I don't know what to make of it. I feel like I met my soul mate with him, but I am not sure how to act about it. I guess that goes without saying... I am hoping that I can get some of these things sorted out here.

There was a series of posts recently regarding this matter. It's in the Love and Dating folder, and the name of the thread is "An Odd Dilemma". I have had very similar situations myself, regarding whether to continue a relationship, or to end that relationship and begin one with someone who I felt was superior to the one I was already with.

Hi Janika.

I do not have a dx and am a male married to a NT. Before we knew about AS, she could say things that (not meant) I take personally and an argument escalates resulting in me sulking for days. Now she is careful to preface some comments that its not a criticism and I make a point of letting her know how I am feeling if its going the wrong way. Its a lot better.

You could try looking at An Aspergers Marriage (I got a copy from Amazon.com). Its about a male AS and his wife (not AS but epileptic so she doesn't call herself NT). I think he is a bit of a whinging pommy, but I have a lot of similarities to him, but switching roles for you may have less relevence.

Good luck. Hope no-one gets hurt in your love triangle.

Hi Janicka and welcome.
Like you the realisation of my AS came as an adult. It has greatly helped me to explain why so much crap has happened to me in my life. I have been married, but now find living on my own is by far the best way of maintaining the order in my life which I need. This sounds so selfish to NT's, but I find that many Aspies feel the same, as they also need the space to have their own routines and control over their lives. I have always found living with someone else to be a compromise that I was not comfortable with - now I know why. I too hate arguments, they can upset me for days or even weeks.
You will find many friends here at WP, and perhaps a new soulmate - we are all here for each other.
Mike
