Hello? I'm never good at introductions... though I figured after lurking for a while I may as well just register, so hey.

So yeah. :P I guess I can start off with... being super-obsessed with music. I rarely watch TV because every second that's on that's a second I'm not listening to music! (that might be an exaggeration, I'm not sure...) Yesterday practicing jazz bass skills, the day before that trying to learn classical violin, today worked out some ambient video game music on my keyboard... so maybe more guitar work tomorrow. I listen to pretty much every genre... or at least try to. Even country and rap... though that's something I'm still working on, lol. I guess my favorite type of music right now is progressive rock/metal.

Interesting story with an Asperger's diagnosis... anyways. Probably getting it in the next week or so. During a bout of depression, I was told by a licensed nurse that I definitely had some form of it (was pretty supportive). Of course there was the "Everything makes sense now!" a-ha stuff. :D But one of the reasons I came here was so that I could figure more out about it, since some things I'm still not sure about, and it'd be nice to figure out as much as possible before I start college. :)

Uh... so yeah, hi!

Welcome to WP! I used to play classical violin and I am soon to buy another violin and try to get it back into my fingers.

Hi Dnuos, welcome to WP!

My bf and his brother are REALLY into video game music too (they're both musicians/composers, btw). Their favorites are the "old school" stuff like Mario, Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, MegaMan....

Yup, that's how I felt too. I'm self-diagnosed, but a professor recently told me that he suspected I had AS from the day he met me.

Glad you found us, hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Again, welcome. :)

Hey Dnuos (and conundrum too) if you like video game music here's a site I would recommend:

Overclocked Remixes

A bunch of people doing various remixes in different genres, all based off of VG music, all free to download. How cool is that?!

Anyways, greetings Brother Dnuos, may you find what you seek here.

I've heard of that a few times... guess I should check it out. Sounds pretty cool, thanks!

Hi! Speaking of music, Locrian is a B natural mode, right? I forget. :P

It can be, depends on where you start. If you start on B then it's just C major scale.
The interval is thus: ½--1--1--½--1--1--1 or H-W-W-H-W-W-W. So if you want to play G Locrian you'd play this:

G, A♭, B♭, C, D♭, E♭, F, G (octave)

B Locrian: B, C, D, E, F, G, A, B

:)

It's not an often used mode and is somewhat shunned, which is why it is my favorite. Dissonant chords are awesome.

That's cool. I don't know my modes well enough... as opposed to the major/minor keys. Especially since they're rarely used by many musicians these days. But yay for dissonant chords! I should start using them to write stuff...

I would kindly disagree that modes are not used by many musicians these days. Every single musician I work with works in modes, some of them specifically write in modes, some don't, guitarists especially do. If you're familiar with Satriani's work, he specifically chooses certain modes to write in. As does Vai. Even if you don't know what modes are, you're likely composing in one of the seven familiar modes. Really all they are are scale formulas or intervals in a scale. ;)

You know how to sing do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do? Well that's the Ionian Mode - the most common mode in music.
I don't always necessarily pick a mode and write in it, but for a structure and math freak like me, it's an attractive pastime.
Hope this wasn't just a bore of a paragraph for you to read. But if you are interested in composing music, modes will inspire you and train your ear. They're easy formulas, you can make a card with all of them on there and then go nuts.

Dnuos, if you haven't seen this already, here is a decent article on modes if you are interested.
