Hello everyone, I'm new here. I want to introduce myself so here I go. :)

I am a 23, almost 24 year old female that has had many problems since early childhood. I've never seen a psychologist in my life, and whenever my teachers or doctors suggested that I may have a problem then my parents always defended me (because it's shameful to have mental problems in their culture), so I had a lot of struggles through my life with these problems. The closest thing to mental help I got was in 5th grade when I went to a school counselor about having an issue with finding friends, and that was only a one time thing (it didn't help either).

Anyway, a year ago, with the help of my sister (who is studying to be a nurse), I discovered that these problems may be some type of autism or aspergers. I may also have some type of mutism (since I'm unable to talk in a lot of situations) as a result of this, but of course I don't know for sure since I never had help.

As a result of my problems, I had trouble finishing high school (dropped it once, finished a year later than I was supposed to), since I lost all interest in it since middle school. I had a lot of trouble trying to focus on school subjects since they weren't a part of my 1 or 2 interests. Now I'm old and I'm taking some classes at a community college, and I'm having the same problem again with losing interest. I had trouble keeping jobs too, since how I acted on the interview then I can't keep that up all the time, so now I'm unemployed.

I want to get help, but I don't have a lot of faith in doctors since I also have scoliosis and the first doctor I went to (when I was a preteen) then they failed to diagnose it, and now I have a nasty curve. That's a problem that is fairly easy to spot compared to a mental problem such as this, so I wonder. Also there's the problem of me being chronically poor, and my insurance runs out next month. My parents are broke too, so I don't know.

If anyone read this far and has any suggestions for me, I'd appreciate it greatly! I tried to leave a lot of details out but this just became long anyway. Thank you for reading and I hope to see you guys around the forum! :D

Welcome to Wrongplanet Ania!

I have read through this and I must say I wish I knew what to say but I'm sure that you'll find a nugget or two of advice here.

Nice to meet you, ania - and welcome to the WP forums. You'll find a lot of good information here on Wrong Planet. You also might consider making an appointment with the "Mental Health Services" in your county, which can be found in the government pages of the phone book under "County Government," for a consultation. All the best to you.

Welcome to the Wrong Planet. I wish I could offer some suggestions for you, but perhaps the best help will come from others here. Can someone from your area help? Surely WP has some people who are around your area that might help you. The best I can offer is to tell you that some classes are very hard to concentrate on. I had that problem too and I just had to force myself to do what was necessary in order to get through. Then too, maybe you are going down the wrong path. As Joseph Campbell often said, "Just follow your bliss." In other words find out what you most like to do then find some way to make that your life work and of course get paid for it!

Wow. Thank you for the welcomes everyone! :) Also thank you for trying to help me.

I'll take your suggestion JetLag, as soon as I can find a phone book :D

AspieWolf: It's embarrassing, but the trouble is that my interests are very impractical. I'm trying to take and finish a class in a past interest, computer science in C++ and possibly majoring in it, but my current interest is overriding it. ;s I am forcing myself indeed :).

I tried erasing my interest in computers in my teens when I found out that a lot of math was required; i was miserable at math when I was younger (had trouble passing algebra 1). In the past year I forced myself to take and learn algebra 1 & 2, now I'm in precalculus. I'm still not sure if comp science is the right idea for me, but at the very least, I feel I need to take and finish math up to calculus to be able to do anything interesting.

My current interests are reading and researching things on the internet, such as this forum, and games. I'm hoping to link the comp science to the games part, but so far I find it kind of boring.

My past interests were: Parrots(from small child to high school), and anime + computers (middle school to 3rd year of high school).
