Hi, I'm John. I was diagnosed with Asperger's last week, and I'm still not quite sure how I feel about that, except that as I read more about AS, a lot of things about my life make a lot more sense. I haven't yet received the full report so I don't know what else that's going to tell me. I've been lurking here since I was diagnosed, and figured I ought to introduce myself.
Trying to think what else folks might want to know about me. I'm male, 40, live in Nottingham and am a geeky goth, or gothy geek (can never decide which of those 2 phrases I prefer). I think most people find me a bit weird, but not always on first impressions, and only 3 people have ever suggested to me that they think I might have AS or autism or anything like that (well, I guess 4 now, if you count the diagnosis!).
I work as a systems analyst and live alone. I pretty much gave up on relationships when I was 25 when it became clear to me that I just couldn't make them work as I couldn't tell what the other person was feeling or what was wrong. I spend most of my spare time writing & recording music, although I also read a lot and play the occasional computer game.
I'm not too fond of the word 'neurotypical', although I understand the need for a label and can see why something like 'normal' would be objectionable to some folks.
So, um, yeah. Hi!
