Hi everybody!
I already joined here some weeks ago and I think I should finally introduce myself.
I'm an 18-years-old Christian girl living in Europe. You can call me Theresa here, although that's not my real name. (You might think I'm somewhat paranoid, not telling my name and where I live - and maybe you're right, but I've read many stories about telling too much on the internet and I'd rather be careful.)
The reason I joined Wrong Planet is that my best friend was recently diagnosed with Asperger's. This came as a surprise for me and I still don't really understand it, so I thought it might help to get in contact with other people with Asperger's.
I've been interested in the topic for years, though. I'll try not to write too much, but I think a little information might be useful:
Some years ago, I watched a TV program about autism and felt that I could identify with some of the traits of Asperger's that were being described. So I started researching. For some time (one year? two years? even longer?), I was obsessed with Asperger's and I thought I had it. Now, though, I think it was an overreaction resulting from the wish to be special. If I ever encounter problems that might be linked to it, I might seek out a diagnosis. But at the moment, I'm quite sure that I'm not an Aspie.
I think I'm not really NT either, though. My speculation is that Neurotypicality is not entirely remote from the Autism Spectrum, rather that there are transitions - and that I'm somewhere in between.
My hobby is reading - nearly only non-fiction about what I'm interested in at the moment. Now, it's autism (once again) and linguistics. The latter one has even been quite stable. I'm trying to invent my own language now
.
Since I don't think I'm an Aspie, I might not really be able to contribute so much to this forum. But maybe I can help out with questions about NT life - you can also pm me if you want.
Merry Christmas in advance!
Theresa
