Greetings all,

We found the site quite by accident. But already I am glad we did. We got the AS diagnosis a year ago.

Although knowing what it is called doesn't lessen the impact AS has on our family, at least with a name, you can google it and start researching it. And that is exactly what we have done. And that is how we found all of you.

My wife and I are webmasters, and we have put the web to work for us, researching, reading articles, comparing notes and reading nearly every book we find on AS.

We knew a long time ago that our son was different, but could not get the Doctors to see what we were seeing. That has changed now due to a lot of effort on our part.

We are in the process of moving from CA to WA. Our hope is that the smaller class sizes will benefit both of the kids. Currently, our daughter's classes have between 40-45 kids per class, in WA there is only 20-25 per class.

We are sure this will help our son with his AS. He is easily distracted by the 35 kids in his classes. And he will get more one on one time with the teacher, as he needs more repitition to help him learn the lesson.

Plus in WA, they know what AS is. The only person at my son's school district who knew about AS was the district psyche, and that was because she had just attended a seminar about autism, and AS was mentioned.

We have also had to battle the school repeatedly to get them to do anything. AAArgh!!

Well, enough intro and ranting. I have found the site to be very informative, supportive, and insightful.

I will be spending more time in the forums soon, but first we have to get thru this move. And there is still a bit of packing to do, among other things.

Again, thanks to you all, you are a great bunch...

welcome! :)

wow...that is a HUGE amount of kids in a class....40 - 45.... I think that is a hard environment for *any* child to learn in.
