OOPS! Replied instead of posted. My son was different from a very early age (18 months). We knew something was different about him (different not wrong) He never lost speech, he didn't seem to have any physical PDD issues but BOY was he delayed socially. He loved to sit in my lap (or anyones lap) and be read to or cuddle, he pointed at EVERTHING, we thought he was a genius when he was 2 1/2 because he kept lining up checkers in a pattern! (HMMMM) He learned his colors in a day and never got them wrong, memorized books, movies (damn Barney). He was STRONG WILLED, had ear infections every month for three years...not an exaggeration. We kept asking friends and family what they thought and we were told he was shy. My pediatrician told me I was over protective, overbearing and I should put him in daycare.. AAHHHHH. He is no longer our pediatrician. Anyway, one day my brother threw out the "A" word...autism. No way I thought. He speaks! Kids with autism sit in a corner and rock (didn't know much at that time about ASD) Well I went online and read about autism and it didn't fit but then I came across Aspergers Syndrome and WOW!! ! Read Tony Attwood's book. It was written about my son! He is doing well now. He's come a long way and still has lots of social learning to do. I hope to hear from other Aspies and NT parents too!
