First Name: Ryan

Age: 17

Location: Arizona

Hobbies and Interests: Mostly music but basically anything that interests me. I'm not picky.

Why are you here?
To post.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
Summer of 2001

Favorite music: Can't pick one! I range from the mid-50's to the present, which includes Rock, Metal, and Country.
Check this: www.freewebs.com/bloodboneinjustice/mycdcollection.htm That'll give you a better idea.

Books: Don't often read.

TV: 24, Viva La Bam, American Idol, South Park, CSI: Miami (although I don't watch much TV often either)

Instrument(s): Bass guitar, guitar, learning piano.

Do you like sports? Nope

Family: Mother, stepfather, younger brother

Clothing: I like Vans shirts, faded and/or ripped jeans, and I'm never seen without my AC/DC cap.

How did you find this website? Aspies For Freedom. I was first interested in a messageboard just for people with AS, and I went to AFF, and there were mostly parents, and they told me about this place.

Job: I have a full-time job at a grocery store as a carry-out, one of those laboring losers who bag your groceries.

Plans for the future? Once I turn 18, I will go for promotion to go into the meat department in my store, with bigger pay and raises ($8.70 and raises compared to $6.00 and no raises as a carry-out). I will save enough money to attend a school of luthiery (www.roberto-venn.com) to learn to build and repair guitars. I also want to join/start a band as a bassist.

Any comments? Cool site. I've had past experiences, having forgot my usernames (I'm not actually a regular member so I don't remember my usernames and passwords (except one but it was stupid), so I know it's a great site, although I've made few posts.

Books: Harry Potter, Paul Auster, David Sedaris, Ephraim Kishon

TV shows / Movies: Simpsons, Monk, Scrubs, Friends / The Sixth Sense, Red Dragon, While You Were Sleeping, Rain Man, Fight Club, Keeping the Faith

Do you like sports?: No, though table tennis, badminton and hockey are quite fun (I still suck at them too)

Hello - This is a wonderful website...I am very impressed not only by the way it is set up, but by it's members....how helpful everyone is. I am a parent of a 9 1/2 year old boy with AS so I will be answering these questions about him.

What is your first name?

Derek....but I like people to call me Spaceman

Age:

9 1/2....I tell people I'm 253 :) in Martian years

Location:

Florida (born in San Jose, CA, however)

Hobbies and Interests:

Space space and more space, the human anatomy, I LOVE MATH!, Geography...particularly pangea and the United States and it's capitals, the American Presidents, the periodic table and chemical make-ups of objects

Why are you here?

Support, ideas, reinforcement

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):

By the state when he was four years old.....my his Pediatric Neurologist (whom he still sees) 3 years ago when he was 6. Diagnosed AS, but also exhibits several traits leaning more toward autism. (Echolalia. (sp?)/// He also takes a very long and labored time forming sentences. Can't tolerate loud noises....freakishly high pain threshold. Also extremely ADHD!! Takes the 30 mg Daytrana patch every day...which, by the way, I am very happy with...)

Favorite subjects:

Gifted program for Science and Math (on the schools' Math Bowl team) also in remedial reading/communication/"freindship" groups (great public school for AS kids!!)

Year/Grade: 4th

Favorite music:

Not really interested in music at this point.

Books:

Anything to do with the Solar System or the Human Anatomy...does NOT like non-fiction books at all and has a hard time understanding conversations in them even a little...

TV shows/Movies:

NASA Channel....Discovery Channel, Deal or No Deal and Backyardigans...go figure....

Instrument:

Likes to play with his sisters piano sometimes, but that's it.

Do you like sports?

I know this is not "typical", but he is almost OVERLY athletic! Took gymastics for a while and is unusually strong for any child. Does tricks on his bike, skateboard, scooter....fastest runner in the neighboorhood...great at throwing footballs and baseballs.

Family:

Dad (a computer engineer...thinks he might be slightly AS himself), Mom, older sister and brother who are both honor roll students but no signs of AS at all.

Clothing:

Oh boy....does NOT like underwear...have to check before he leaves the house...does not know what "matching" is...doesn't care to match what he's wearing to the temperature outside

How did you find this website?

links from other sites

Job:

Derek INTENDS to work for NASA... The joke is that Derek will be an Engineer at NASA, but mommy and Daddy will pick him up after work. Hey, his Dad's and engineer and we already live in Florida....I'd put money on the fact that this will come true.

Plans for the future?

NASA....although we have to get him through middle school first and I'm not too sure how that will go!

Any comments? Thanks for this website...

What is your first name? Emma

Age: 24

Location: Manchester, England

Hobbies and Interests: I don't like hobbies, but I like words. Just reading them, learning about them, writing them down. I have a half-finished dictionary somewhere, and have plans to invent a new way of classifying words.

Why are you here? I've become very disturbed by the weird stuff I do.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I'm not, and don't intend to unless it gets really bad.

Favorite subjects: Words, history, geography (ooh, maps!), language, architecture.

Year/Grade: Whoa! Left that behind about ten years ago.

Favorite music: Only Leonard Cohen understands me (though The Smashing Pumpkins on full volume make me freak out sufficiently enough to make it worthwhile).

Books: Anything factual. Currently trying to read about endocrinology and embryology, but I keep getting sidetracked by other things.

TV shows/Movies: Nope. Got rid of it earlier this year. Way to many difficulties with it.

Instrument: Nope here also, sadly.

Do you like sports? Hahahahahahaha! Oh, you were serious.....

Family: Too many to count. No children yet, but would love some, and don't want to let anything get in the way (read above regarding not getting diagnosed).

Clothing: Jeans and tshirt or jumper most days. I like skirts, moreso short ones, but people look at me if I wear them.

How did you find this website? From Wikipedia (No longer addicted! Yay! (Although I did have to get rid of my computer.)).

Job: Administrative work in the NHS.

Plans for the future? Kids, boyfriend (not in that order), maybe I will be able to go back into education in the future. Otherwise, who knows?

Any comments? It wasn't me! I'm just the patsy!

Instrument: rapier or ep'ee

Do you like sports? playing a little, watching rarely

Family: Aunt, uncle, mother, cousin, and two friends who might as well be brothers.

Clothing: Usually.

How did you find this website? Quite by accident.

What is your first name?

Age: 26

Location: Northern Virginia, just south of the DC Beltway

Hobbies and Interests: I'm a member of the Obsession Of The Month club.
Knitting, Woodworking, Electronics, Most anything computer related (hardware, gaming, programming), Camping/hiking (though it's been far too long since I've actually done any), Spirituality/mysticism/paranormal, Science/weird science/unexplaned phenomena, Alternative energy sources, Happiness and the pursuit and attainment thereof, Practicing and listening to music, Text adventures

Why are you here? Curiosity, looking for people I can relate to and who maybe can relate back

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
Haven't been officially diagnosed with AS, but I've tried a few of the quizzes and been right on the edge and I can identify with many of the things that I have read here. If I don't have it, then I apparently have enough of the same kinds of quirks that being here will probably be a good thing for me ^_^

Favorite subjects: See hobbies and interests above ;)

Year/Grade: Graduated from college with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 2003

Favorite music: Very eclectic. Video game soundtracks, Celtic, some pop, some dance, some electronica...

Books: For technical topics, by far my favorites are the Head First series. My favorite fiction books include: The Black Jewels Trilogy, Shockwave Rider, Snowcrash, His Dark Materials Trilogy

TV shows: Firefly, The Daily Show, Stargate SG1, Family Guy, That 70s Show, Eureka, Trigun, Bleach, Wallace and Gromit, Doctor Who

Movies: V For Vendetta, The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, The Matrix, The Triplets of Belleville

Instrument: (in order of descending proficiency) Hammered Dulcimer, Mountain Dulcimer, Violin, Guitar

Do you like sports? Sure! Broomball, ultimate frisbee, martial arts (especially Hapkido!), yoga, and pilates

Family: The usual number of parents, four siblings.

Clothing: On the job, business casual (mainly because it's the dress code ;) ) Around the house, depends on what I'm doing. I'm a big fan of flannel pajama pants and corduroys and sweatshirts and such, but for working on projects I'll often go with jeans and t-shirt with something geeky on it ("I haven't lost my mind; it's backed up on the server!") I also have a few kimonos that I like to wear for relaxing in.

How did you find this website? I'm not sure, but I think it was doing an AS search on Google

Job: Contracting as a Web Application Developer

Plans for the future? Continuing to develop my hobbies and pursue my interests and work on my relationship skills (I seem to have the empathy thing down pretty well; I can usually figure out when someone is upset and why--but figuring out what to do once I know that is very difficult!)

Any comments?
