I was out in the forest night, in a huge three day country fair sans electricity, generators, everything was (silent battery) or firelight. I was wearing a lovely diaphanous long ball gown of silk and rayon petticoats and walking with a small battery powered lantern. When using the port-a-potty I just happened to stick the lantern into my petticoat elastic and marveled at the lamp shade like effect it had. Once outside, I twirled and I was an illuminated bell skirt wafting from place to place.

I had comments from all sides - and countered either with 'I've been enlightened' or 'I got the fire down below" since that was popular at that time. Strangest things happen serendipitously.

and I just love pumpkin-ginger muffins! Thanks, mntn13!

Sounds delightfully surrealistic! I thought at first that you were describing a dream you had!

It is like a dream.. . happens every year. Here are some pics

Are you in any of them?

Followed the link to the pics and thanks, wow, what a nice place/time. Makes me want to go, especially if it is quiet. I wonder if they let mountains in? I can't go to regular fairs - too scary-loud, and I don't fit on the rides. Then there's the issue of my creeks getting the machinery and everyone all wet. The trees think it's funny, but it's gotten me in all sorts of trouble.

no rides, no generators or electricity, remember. Even Springfield Creamery booth (Ken Kesey's family) has to pack their ice cream in dry ice! Good news, though - Mountains get in FREE :) be sure to wear some flowers in your higher elevations

sylkat, ah, gee thanks :)
sinsboldy: a free, quiet, fair in the forest, with ice cream - astonishing. I'm starting, or at least fantasizing a travel plan; maybe I can visit friends in Arcata on the way next summer.

ah, well, I didn't say QUIET. But put your ear plugs in, wear some shades and a nice cloud around your peaks and you can filter out a lot of stuff. . .stay away from the main thoroughfares and wander the smaller paths near the Long Tom creek, or hang out in the Alternative Energy Park, or the quiet space Ti pi in the Community Village and groove to the gentle people everywhere. Arcata is just over to Eugene down I-5 to Shasta then over to the Coast Highway 101. And check Craig's List or some such - always plenty going and coming from the Country Fair.

it's an Oregonian Tradition!

Dear Hope 8, Technically, we're building or rebuilding a former cafe. We are furnishing the place, deciding what music for the sound system, and most definitely what type of muffins and ice cream we will offer! It's a DINO Aspie place because we are all over 40 years old, but since the next part of the sign over the door says. 'or feeling creaky', anyone feeling creaky is welcome. HOWEVER you are obligated to offer suggestions on the future wallpaper. We have a veranda, porch swings, a crystal chandelier, hanging spider plants, and an Aspiedistra. I hope you like it here, we're all working on it and it's coming along very well, doncha think? We have a good music library, but please feel free to suggest anything you would like to have included; we want everyone to feel at home. How do you feel about putting in an aquarium? I rather look forward to MAJOR debate over saltwater or freshwater tank ! Sylkat

My mother used to say that I was her little Britisher when I was a child. Must be a reincarnation thing, or something. 8)
