What is your first name? ...

Age: 35

Location: Washington, DC

Hobbies and Interests: Painting, trail running, cycling, quantitative data analysis, making the world a better place.

Why are you here? Aspie.

When were you diagnosed? (skip if you don't have a disorder): Self-diagnosis last year; don't want to pursue real diagnosis because that would require talking to people and being judged.

Favorite subjects: Poli Sci, philosophy (symbolic logic and epistemology), history (ancient, preferably Greek), astronomy, and art theory.

Year/Grade: Completed masters; starting PhD likely in two years.

Favorite music: Nearly everything but modern country and Disney-pop.

Books: I read a lot. I'm a big Hemingway fan and read a lot of cosmology-oriented non-fiction, but Ulysses is the end-all-be-all of books I've enjoyed.

TV shows/Movies: Avid film buff with a preference for depressing artsy-fartsy movies (2001 ASO, Brazil, Lawrence of Arabia, Blade Runner, Wings of Desire...). Currently in love with Battlestar Galactica.

Instrument: I was once playing any instrument that you don't blow. Preference for drums, though.

Do you like sports? Not team sports. I ski, tennis, cycle and long-distance run (soon to be an ultrarunner).

Family: I have one. I don't talk to them much. I've beem married once, divorced once, and currently have a long-time girlfriend (not an Aspie, but not NT).

Clothing: I don't think about my clothes very much. I tend to wear the same thing all the time, except at work.

How did you find this website? Sheer luck.

Job: Defense analyst for the US government.

Plans for the future? Finding a career I'm happier with, marrying the little woman, thinking deep thoughts.

Any comments? I'm worried that all of us are just slightly maladjusted normal people. But that thought is likely often mentioned (and likely heretical) here. But other than that, I've never seen a place on the web with so many people dealing with the same issues I've had to work through, and this is extremely comforting.

And what I mean by my second to last point is that the "Asperger's is the new ADD" pressure that seems so pervasive on the web is really bogging me down. The mere fact that I've had to work exceedingly hard in order to become a moderately well-functioning member of society seems to evaporate when people who don't take the condition seriously suggest that I've simply suffered through a manifestion of "life" or "growing up." I feel like I've spent 30 years just trying to keep it together, but I've also spent enough time trying to learn how to empathize with other human to think (just for a second) "Maybe they're right. Maybe I just suck at life."

Maybe I do. Nevertheless, AS seems pretty real.

What is your first name? Tony but never liked it, prefer "chaz" nickname version of my middle name.. I am not italian but all tonys are italian and I am a tony so I am italian. NOT.

Age: 43

Location: in front of my work computer in boulder Co when I should be analyzing a restraint fitting for a test solar array to make sure it won't break the honeycomb panel

Hobbies and Interests: boy, where to start! Reading huge amounts of books mostly scifi but even dickens, watching lots of TV, traveling the world, barbq potato chips, renewable energy, Engineers Without Borders, space travel and rocket design, new cool music

Why are you here? well, still working on that, but the very concept that, being an oddball and finding other oddballs perhaps then in oddball math I am no longer an oddball if I am with the other oddballs? I have felt like such a failure my whole life.. "why don't you shut up, can't you tell you should not talk?" rings in my ears as NO, I CAnt tell when to shut up jeez if I could don't you friggin think I would? Why would I WANT people to think I am a nut?

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Um, well, in my head I am diagnosed.. I am not official.. but jeez, not rocket science here, (which I do), not too hard to read over the symptomology, relate that to 43 years of "why are you so odd" in a manner typical of AS, and go "duh"

Favorite subjects: Um, knowledge? NOT sports, why DO people sit and watch?

Year/Grade: um? huh? Ok, MSME Univ. Of Mich 12/87

Favorite music: Not much for R&B, old old jazz, new tunage like Fray, they keep writing stuff I like! thank goodness.

Books: Most of them, and have read about half of all books ever published. Well, not quite half, am working on one now.

TV shows/Movies: Invasion and cool Sci Fi shows, Lost, not so much "touched by an angel" tho.

Instrument: HARMONICA

Do you like sports? um, not so much. Being bad young and such. I did run X country my senior year of high school, got 3 miles run in 18.2 minutes, but was big school and was not so fast as the others. but not bad! Played softball with church groups, frisbee is fun.

Family: Mom died when I was 21, was estranged.. Dad and stepmom and I get along pretty well, Dad apologized when I was 21 for being "hard" on me my whole life.. was too much like him and he didn't like himself.. so you can guess. My brother beat on me my whole life, not close.. sister is ok, I get on her nerves so don't understand why she makes an effort to hang out and such sometimes and have me be an uncle, but if it works for her I guess I will go with it. Got married 2 years ago, have baby on the way

Clothing: Jeans! NO polyester if I can help it, the feel is creepy! ug. I do wear Khakis sometimes, and after years living in Los Angeles and now back in cold Winter (colorado), have lots of flannel lined jeans! My michigan blood got thinner haha.

How did you find this website? Police ordered community service.. Judge directed me to go to this website on pain of being laughed at.. really, came across it on wikipedia!

Job: Senior Mechanical Engineer, Rocket Scientist, Inventor, Book writer in my own head, activist and will save the world real soon!

Plans for the future? hope our baby lives and is ok, due anyday, quit my job and stay home and play with baby and be poor but I think wife want me to keep a job oh well. continue work with Engineers without Borders, try to do volunteer work with kids of battered women, tutoring etc.

Any comments? You all are cool and I don't even know ya!

What is your first name? Drew. Nobody calls me that.

Age: 22

Location: Pennsylvania

Hobbies and Interests: mostly partying and sports

Why are you here? I don't exactly know quite yet.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I'm not sure if I have AS or what I have, if I have anything at all. I just don't feel ordinary, and sometime roughly a year ago I began looking for answers. At the very least, I am a picture thinker with more than a few characteristics of AS.

Favorite subjects: Football

Year/Grade: on hiatus with an Associates Degree in Communications (a girl recently had a laugh at my expense for the irony in that major; naturally, I didn't get the joke until the next day)

Favorite music: Jet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tom Petty

Books: Last good books I read were the Da Vinci Code and Deception Point by Dan Brown

TV shows/Movies: Prison Break and South Park are my favorite shows, and I recently got caught up in Heroes. My favorite movies are usually comedies, my favorite being Office Space. The Last Samurai is also one of my favorites, mostly because it had me briefly obsessed with Bushido. The best movie I have seen in the past year is V for Vendetta.

Instrument: none

Do you like sports? Yes, especially football.

Family: I have parents and a sister who is married and just made me an uncle last year.

Clothing: T-shirt and jeans kind of guy.

How did you find this website? Wikipedia

Job: I essentially am partner in a corporation, but officially I am the Director of Operations at a photography studio. Mostly, I am a graphic designer; I airbursh portraits, release print advertising, and I am in the process of starting a design and printing company under the corporation's umbrella. Most importantly, I solve or work around problems, and every small business needs cheap solutions which is why I have been able to ascend the corporate ladder at such a young age.

Plans for the future? Ultimately, I would like a job in the NFL managing a professional football team. I follow football intensely and my goal, however impossible it may be, is to earn a Super Bowl ring. Realistically though, I would like to continue to be successful in business, maybe become a professional Madden player, and hopefully one day have a family.

Any comments? I don't know what to expect from this experience. I generally avoid forums and Internet chat, but I've noticed in my research that this is a very good community. At least I suspect I will find more answers here than at the bottom of a bottle. I guess I just hope maybe I will find some answers about who I am.

Why are you here? Because I'm an aspie.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Self-diagnosed last April. Working on an offical dx. Along with a couple of other dxs (avodiant, bipolar (?), and schizotypal) because I'm almost positive I'm not just AS.

Favorite subjects: English, Art

Year/Grade: 10th

Favorite music: Metal, Rock (almost all variations, I won't list them all). At the moment I'm listening to "Kiss and Control" by AFI. :D

Books: Lots. I recently started a series called Demon Diary and have completely fallen in love, so that's the big one at the moment.

TV shows/Movies: None really. I don't watch a lot of TV.

Instrument: I can still tinker around on the piano, and I'm getting guitar lessons next month.

Do you like sports? Meh, depends on the sport. I don't do sports though.

Family: Mother, father, little brother, six cats, one perfect puppy (who's actually 13).

Clothing: Black, grey, or a funny saying. Always jeans.

How did you find this website? I was searching the internet for aspie related stuff and found this site. I like it.

Job: I work for my father's company, typing/editting/filing tank reports.

Plans for the future? College, writing, and (probably) psychology. Oh, and moving somewhere big. :)

Any comments? ...Not really. I thought I had posted here before, but apparantly I didn't.

Sounds a lot like me.

Do you come from Bowton then? Ever seen a match at home? It's a nice place to shop there, and the Reebok stadium is nice. Never been to see a match, though. :)
