Hi there. Never quite sure what to put in these, so if it's too much of a ramble, apologies.

I got diagnosed in the summer, and it took a while to get my head around it, though it was actually a relief to know why I'm a bit (very lol) odd and why I've had so many social screwups in my life, both personally and professionally.

I'm 37, ex British army, and nowadays I'm a paramedic.

I lurked to begin with, but thought I would start posting as so many folks seem to be having a really tough time ,are kinda negative and depressed, and I'm hoping I can maybe help a bit- sorry if that sounds a bit up my own backside, it's not meant to, I just mean that it's nice to be nice. I'm also hoping I can in turn get help with some of the issues I sometimes have as well.

I'm a huge sci-fi geek, and I'm a member of a costuming group that goes to scifi events in costume and raises money for charity. We make many of the costumes ourselves, and it's really good fun. My avatar is me in one of my costumes

Finally I also go airsofting in my spare time, which is also most excellent fun.

Anyhoo, hiya folks  , looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hello Kelspook! Welcome to WP and good to know your diagnosis has provided you with some relief in knowing why you act the way you do. Hope you enjoy posting and encouraging others.

What is airsofting by the way? :D

Thanks for the welcomes :D

MissWiggy, airsofting is kind of like paintball, but with little 6mm plastic pellets instead of great big sore paintballs. It works on an honour system of calling when you get hit, as you aren't marked like in paintball.

The things I like best about it are that you don't get covered in paint, and the rifles and pistols are replicas of real ones. If you want an M16, a P90 or a bloody great machine gun you can have an airsoft one. They're also full automatic because they run on battery powered motors onto a gearbox with then makes a piston go back and forth really quickly, firing a BB each time!

Last thing I like is that I can combine my scifi stuff with the outdoors- nothing stopping me from running around shooting my friends with a P90 and dressed like someone from Dr Who, Stargate SG1 or Stargate Atlantis.

Nice to see more scots aspies here. not long diagnosed myself, also a bit of a sci-fi fan. welcome to the forums.

That airsoft sounds a barrel of laughs, like a grown up nerf gun.. ideal thing, camping trip, and run around like nutters with guns.

Hiya Cerberus, and I've noticed a few other Jocks here, though not that many :) Airsoft is indeed a barrel of laughs, though I stick to going to organised sites, wouldn't want an armed response team and a police heli turning up lol. I generally play at Players of War, a site just outside Falkirk. There are a few sites up in your neck of the woods too!

Why thank you! I also have a full UNIT uniform from the reboot, gotta dig the black tactical look  plus it doesn't half irk people at airsoft if you manage to totally sneak up on them while wearing a bright red beret.... extremely amusing!

Oh that sounds much better than paintballing... I've wanted to try paintballing but everyone says how sore it can be and no one wants to join me
Maybe I'll have better luck with airsofting!

If you're from Edinburgh, NCIS, Clan Falcon and Players of War are all pretty much in your area. You should give it a go, it's great fun! :D
