Hello everyone!
Just wanted to say hi! I've just signed up here and I want to get straight into it!

A little bit about myself:
My name is Lauren.
I'm 17
I live in QLD, Australia
I'm shy, mainly in face-to-face situations
I like reading and a little writing
And video games

I've had most of the "symptoms" of Asperger's all my life, but never known it was Asperger's until now (4 hours, my mum heard Tony Attwood being interviewed, and she showed me and I thought "That's me!! !! !"
I really hope to meet people who I can talk to, share experiences with, and to give and receive support.

Hope to get lots of warm welcomes! :D

Why thank you! It also turns out this is the first forum I'm registered to, so I feel extra excited!
It's gonna take a bit to get used to the forum life! I have one question:
Can you see replies to posts in the "inbox" tab? (It seems obvious, but there's 'messages', but no 'replies' or anything.

Hello :D

The "Inbox" tab at the top of the forum page relates to personal message's (PM's) between yourself & other members, So nothing to do with open forum replies. PM's are visible to only yourself & the sender/reciever (unless there is an option to "forward message" tab or to send out the same message to multiple users)

Clicking on the "Inbox" tab reveals more tabs to do with your PM's
The "Outbox" tab is to indicate PM's so far sent are recieved or not, when a sent message is read, this will appear in your sent/inbox tab.
The "Save" box is for PM's sent to you by others you wish to keep.

You also have the option to "delete" various PM's once read or keep them for referance in the "savebox" & on most forums you're allowed upto 100 inbox , sent /recieved / saved PM's , when these are full, you need to re-read them as to delete the least important PM's as to free up space.

When you recieve a PM from another member : do not click on attatchments or reply to email address links given, as these could be spammers or links to virus's etc.

The PM system varies on other forum's slightly.

Welcome to the Wrong Planet :D

Having been diagnosed AS I wanted to find out what it really means, and the best way is to hear it from others who are in the same boat.

I haven't been officially diagnosed yet, but my mum and I both agree AS sounds exactly like me!
I never really had friends at school. I sat on my own all the time, and I used to draw a lot and read.

Just finding out about AS and hearing Attwood's interview made me feel a little bit better. All my life I thought I was odd, so it's a relief it's not just me!

For me, I've always been weird (I have a lot more details in my own Welcome thread.) I once discussed with a diagnosed Aspie friend all about my discomfort in social situations and various other things. He said I sounded like an Aspie, too. But I had the wrong idea of it in my head. I thought all possible traits had to apply. Since I'm really good at intuiting emotions, motivations, and putting myself into other people's shoes, I thought I couldn't be Aspie.

But then last week I saw this video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tVEEfOG ... re=related I was shocked at how "me" this kid was. I realized that no, not every trait needs to apply. I started reading everything I could about it. Now it all just makes sense. From social problems, to needing my own "alone time", to having trouble understanding/respecting authority and social hierarchies, to my detest for talking on the phone, why I've always gotten in trouble for my tone of voice or "attitude problems" that I never actually had, to looking people in the eye feeling unnatural... oh, I can go on. There are even some things I never even realized were abnormal, I just thought I was really talented (like how I effortlessly pay 10x more attention to detail than other people around me.) I'm looking to see a psychologist soon and see if I can get some testing done. Anyways, so that's my story. :)
