Every now and then, good things happen to good people. Congratulations.
There's a sociology programme and podcast that's been on the Beeb for years: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/ta

I might even have posted in this thread before, but I've been a bit sporadic posting since I joined WP - I'm too lazy to check what I've posted before

Welcome Tenderfoot, have a muffin.
As you can tell, this place has been here along time, and this is the second location. We still have the Aspidistra in the corner (oops, not that corner. . .) and apparently a chocolate hot tub.
sometimes the old crowd trickles through. Take a seat and just post about what ever you would like. Chances are we have had the same experience, somewhere along the line.

Thank you for having me.
I'm sure this has been brought up before but why isn't there a age 40+ Forum here? The reason I ask is because, many of us grew up in an era when Asperger's wasn't ever on most people's radar screens. Many of the issues that younger people in WP are discussing are matters most of us careening toward middle age no longer care about or have found some way to cope. It would be nice to meet others in my generation - those who in school between 1968-1981. There was no Asperger's then, no ADHD, no ADD, dyslexia, etc. then - we were just weirdo rejects. I have to say, it's nice finally knowing what it is about me - I do feel a lot happier about it all.
Thanks for listening.

Tenderfoot,
That is what WE said, "how come there is no over 40 forum?' Well, this is what we got, a place we made for ourselves. Even in this new era of understanding, we "Dinosaurs" had little acceptance into WP. So the Dino Aspie cafe was created by us and for us.

Much like our place in the world. Nobody gave us one - so we made it.

I am going to see a psychiatrist in the end of January. To try and get a diagnosis. He is specialized in autism and even though I am female and older than 40, I hope to get a diagnosis.
At the same time I will mention dyscalculia, PTS and depression, but I do not know if he will be willing to test for dyscalculia as well.

This is one thread. By forum, I mean our own section. "AGE FORTY PLUS" or "PEOPLE BORN BEFORE 1970". Then there would be sub forums "health issues" "life experiences" "relationships", etc... different topics of discussion involving things we grew up with.
How is one supposed communicate in ONE thread?
That is not a forum.
We, as users, can't make an entire subforum. We could, however, make a thread - so we did. And when that thread crashed and burned, a new one was built upon its ashes, and stocked with evul muffins, an Aspidistra, and apparently a chocolate hot tub. (When was the chocolate hot tub installed? I don't remember seeing that in here before...)
Because we are used to being marginalized, trivialized, and ignored - but we will not go away.

I think the chocolate hot tub is in memorandum of Lau. This is the second year I wished him a Happy Birthday on his Bibo and Facebook and the second year there has been no communication from him or others about him. At least to me. Sarah? Have you heard from Lau?
and Tenderfoot, try to remember this is not a generously supported website with a concept of service to all Aspies. WP is private property and is tended to as such. We old ones know, and now you do, too. We adapt and life goes on.

So, yesterday I went into my 12 year old son while he was sitting at the computer. It was bedtime and I was going to tell him (again) that he should go to bed.
He was youtubing, and what do you expect a boy like that to look at?
When I entered he happily turned around and exclaimed "look here at this really cool you tube video about the worlds most fearsome dinosaurs ever". He has been happily researching extinct creatures for hours, as usual, he also watches the BBC episodes in English (he is learning English in school).
Did I mention that I suspect that he is on the spectrum. And his mommy is really happy that he is such an fantastic child

No Lau yet? Did a Google, got his info on Linked In, but nothing useful. Hope he's ok.
Am scheduled for testing in January. New boss, I requested the same accommodations I've had for the last 7 years that have worked perfectly (I even have gotten written commendations from the head honcho), but no dice without a formal diagnosis. SO, I've been through round one, they screened me and said "yep" and are sending me to round two. It's only been since July that California law required Autism/related to be treated as any other condition. Prior to that I'd have had to pay over $3,000 for the diagnostic workup out of my pocket. Now the insurance will cover it.
All for the remaining 3 years I expect to be working at my place. After which I will have 20 years in and hope to move on. I'll get a small pension, hopefully find work and a place to live in somewhere we can manage (not too hot, not too cold), and live happily ever after puttering around in a goperless garden on the weekends. I envy you Merle, I'll be paying on my student loans until the day I die and they'll still be more than when I left school. Good for you on finding a place to settle, as well. I hope it all works out.
Hi Newbies. Yes, growing up in the "before" era was not easy. I think those of us who didn't crash and burn trying to get to where we are now have just ended up being especially tenacious and tough because there has been no other option. Except crash and burn, of course. I hear they are taking "Aspergers" back out of whatever diagnostic code manual is currently in style. I don't care what they call what I'm dealing with, as long as it's recognized that the playing field is not level. Or even in the same county....
Postie, hope you did ok on the the weather. I think of you every time I try to light my fireplace and it goes out without catching. Which seems to be a couple of times a week - thank goodness for fatwood or I'd never get it started. Hi to everybody else. Have been working two jobs, the kid is trying to go back to school (taking 17 units this semester) and so isn't working, so I haven't had time to breathe much. Have a couple of furlough weeks coming up, hope to "talk" to some of you soon. PS I have Skype again, too - just no mike or anyone's addresses.

I have heard from Lau, he is extant, is not extinct and doing quite well. Glad I could connect
