What is your first name? Johan (pronounced by english speakers as "yoo unn" with the yoo much higher pitch and much longer)

Age: 24

Location: Norrköping, Sweden

Hobbies and Interests: Cooking, eating, ingredients, plants (food, medical, psychoactive, but not decorative)

Why are you here? I've been on the #wrongplanet IRC channel for a long time but mostly lurking here. And not even much of that, I like direct answers, I hate email, mail, telephone answering machines and so on, I like direct concversation more, but I can see how a forum can be interesting sometimes.

When were you diagnosed?: I got AS dx at age 15 (summer 1998 just before I started high school) When I was about 13-14 they gave me amphetamine so i guess they suspected ADHD too (ADD without hyperactive is not a recognized dx here in Sweden by the medical community, otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd have that too)

Favorite subjects: Languages, food, spices, drugs, drug metabolism, emotional/behavioural discussion, politics (though I don't have any special dogma or ideology I believe in)

Year/Grade: ?? I finished high school in 2001

Favorite music: I am such a mixed style lover I just have some favorites that are of completely extremely different genres, those I listen to the msot are in bold text:
Lyrical based: Kjell Höglund, Aimee Mann, Françoise Hardy, Organism 12, Ted Gärdestad, Laleh, [ingenting], Manu Chao
Synth: Din Stalker, Infected Mushroom, Wendy Carlos, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis
Indian classic and pop/movie music super perfect singers: S. P. Balasubramaniam, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi
instrumental masters (indian classical): Rakesh Chaurasia, Talvin Singh, Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar
Other music I just enjoy really much: Bharat Nepali Party, Sigur Rós, Penguin Café Orchestra, Björk, Takfarinas, Elton John, Huun-Huur-Tu

Books: Haven't read that much fiction, and the only ones I got anything out of are quite stereotypically 1984 and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

TV shows/Movies: Magnolia, f*****g Åmål (retitled "Show me love" in some more prude countries), Tillsammans, Lilya 4-ever (these first 4 ones are the only ones that ever made me cry) The Truman Show, Fargo ... tv shows i don't watch much, I often have trouble following the speed because I get uninsterested and I don't even have a TV at present (you have to pay a licence for owning a TV in Sweden, and I almost never watch so I feel it's wasteful)

Instrument: I can play piano-layout instruments very well but can not read notes.

Do you like sports? No, I'm scared of water, balls, getting hurt and I was always the shortest in school so they'd always pick me last in the teams, also I didn't learn to swim until I was 15 in Thailand where the water was warm enough.

Family: Parents alive, a little brother of 21 who is a lot bigger than me, he also has his neuropsychiatrical problems I'd say, but a more positive attitude and less concentration problems, as he was assigned to good positions in the army, which required tough mental/psych tests.

Clothing: Since the last half year I've learned what looks real good, not only to me but to the public. At home I wear baggy clothes.

How did you find this website? Been talking on various asperger IRC chatrooms for years so I guess I heard about it there. Not sure though.

Job: no, but coming up soon taking care of a book section in a second hand store (I'll begin as soon as they've finished building the place, it's very very big for being a second hand store) I got this job only thanks to special help from the city for people with disabilities of different sorts such as AS. The work market in Sweden is extremely tough. 20% unemployment, so AS people don't stand much chance, people only want the best, and someone behaving awkward in any little way is left out, and no one without the right contacts can get a job.

Plans for the future? Continue working at that place, or at another store now that I got my foot in the work market and they see I'm not just a lazy bum, but that I actually want to work.

Any comments? I am a very unassertive person who gives up at first try, and rough jokes scare me. I've left college studies for just people being loud and joking. Please try to be careful with me. I normally do absolutely anything people tell me to, because I'm afraid to say no or complain, but instead I can get frustrated when I get overloaded with to much asked from me to the point I explode in violent fits (these violent fits have cost me my dearest friends). I'm very afraid of making a complaint or using my rights. Others have to push me to do that.

The thread that never ends ...

First name: Jessica

Age: 24

Location: near Philadelphia, PA

Why are you here: I'm newly diagnosed and wanted to meet others like me

When were you diagnosed: I was diagnosed by a clinician with AS/non-verbal learning disorder a few months ago, but I've been self-diagnosed for longer

Year/Grade: I have a BA degree in English, which is fairly useless

Favorite music: I guess my taste is pretty varied, but I mainly listen to alt and classic country (huge Patsy Cline fan) and classic rock. I love U2, too. The Joshua Tree is probably my favorite album.

Books: Too many favorites to name, really. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Kerouac's On the Road, McCullers' The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude are the first ones that pop into my head. I also love reading drama and poetry.

TV Shows/Movies: I don't really watch that much TV, but I love The Simpsons. I guess It's a Wonderful Life would have to be my favorite movie.

Instruments: I used to play the flute. (badly)

Sports: I work out daily because it helps me control anxiety somewhat, but I'm not coordinated or aggressive enough for team sports. I always dreaded gym class.

Family: I have a younger brother and a mother to whom I'm fairly close. I haven't been on speaking terms with my Dad for a while, but I think he has (undiagnosed) AS, which is helping me to understand him and make peace a little, now that I'm learning more about it.

Clothing: I try to be fashionable, but on my own terms. (It must be comfortable)

Job: I'm a proofreader for a publishing company.

Future Plans: I'd like to get my act together enough to finally finish a novel and get it published. I'm kind of directionless and spinning my wheels career and relationship-wise. Not too many future plans, I guess...
