Hi! I have a 6 year old daughter who was recently diagnosed with Aspergers. She is very bright, but has an aweful time socially. We are in behavior and occupational therapy plus a therapy group for social skills. I want her reach her full potential. Any insight from those that have been there done that is appreciated!

While you'd have more replies in the parents' section, as an autistic teenager I can say that at least for me, it tends to get easier during high school, especially once you hit senior year as people are more mature and less prone to bullying.

I heard it drops again once you hit college though ><

Welcome! My son was diagnosed at age 3, and by 2nd grade we had him on a good track with behavioral support in school. There were definitely hurdles, like his kindergarten teacher calling him a "nightmare" and the principal demanding he take medication (we changed schools pretty rapidly), but we've had some great experiences and he's now doing very well in 8th grade. I'll see you around the forums!

Thanks! I think what has helped me most is reading about successful female aspies. I know she can do whatever she sets her mind to!

Since diagnosis this year we have more support in school, and see a OT and BT privately. She has come a long way this year, but when she gets frustrated and shuts down they don't see it as that, they think it is willful defiance. She has sensitivities to sound and smell.

MissMichal - I feel your pain, she was kicked out of preschool and the director said she was "possessed".
