Hi all. I'm Nick, 22, recent college grad, currently living and working in Seattle (in the US).

I was never diagnosed as a kid, but always sensed that there was something different about me. After first reading up on Asperger's within the past year or so, I found that it really described/explained who I am, both as an awkward child obsessed with Power Rangers, and as an adult struggling from being quickly drained by all social interactions (despite wanting more and closer interpersonal relationships, being drained drives me away).

I've been seeing a psychiatrist for other reasons, and actually asked him today about me and Asperger's. He thought about it but hesitated. I think the threshold for a diagnosis lies in how greatly the symptoms affect objective daily functioning, rather than the mere manifestation of the symptoms themselves. I think my Aspie/NT score explains me well (that I'm a hybrid :D).

I am so glad to have found and be a part of this forum, and I am excited to make friends who share similar experiences.

Understandable. Olympia to Seattle is far to go for a meetup.

I actually have not attended any of them yet though. How was the one you attended?

the inner part of mason county is even further. takes me over an hour just to get to oly from there in the middle of yahooland.

like a cocktail party, IMHO. there was tasty food, and drink for those who wished to partake/imbibe. it was too large to be anything but a cliqueish affair. i found myself going from clique to clique. the oly meetup is far more intimate, where we actually can get together as a group and hash things out together.

I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to "know you're different" but not know why for most of your life. Hopefully you will find some kind and understanding friends on here. Welcome. :)

This would be a really good month to try out Seattle Square Pegs; it's our five year anniversary, so Mark and I are really going all out to make it a great one.
