Welcome! I'm a real person too. However, on behalf of the missing autoreply, welcome again!
I think everyone is welcome on WP and there is a special section for mental disorders. Autism and Asperger's are not mental illnesses, they are developmental disabilities. However, nobody trivializes about why someone else is here. Gee, there are even a lot of normal people. You can tell the normal people because the things they write generally don't make sense.
Well, what I was asking was if a schizophrenic parent is more likely to give birth to an Asperger baby? Not if they were similar.
I doubt they are related. However, both can be genetic or environmental in origin. And, since both can include cognitive issues and other similar symptoms, one may be misdiagnosed as the other. I'm of the impression that a few decades ago, high-functioning autism/Asperger's was commonly misdiagnosed as mild schizophrenia. If you inherited the symptoms and your diagnosis is correct, it might be possible that your mother was misdiagnosed. If your mother had no autism/Asperger's gene, you could have still gotten it environmentally or from your father.
This is a site by Prof. Jim Adams, who does a lot of research into environmental factors in autism.

Does that help?
