I occasionally browse the forums here and I thought I would take the plunge and join.

I am a college student with aspergers who is majoring in psychology at Keene State College. In terms of my major, I am interested in autism spectrum disorders, neurodiversity, religious belief, as well as cultural and abnormal psychology. My other special interests include roller coasters, philosophy, and creative activities.

This summer I am conducting research with my college so that we can develop a workshop for faculty on how to engage students with ASD's and different learning styles. I hope that the wrong planet community can offer me perspectives other than my own. When I start to synchronize all of this stuff together, I may host a blog and post updates here on the site.

If you ever want to talk, please do not hesitate to message me with questions and suggestions!

Welcome 31rc! I'm new here, as well. I think the research you are doing with your college is a wonderful idea. My son, who is 15 and has autism, will be journeying to college in a few years and I can't help but worry about him in that totally different (and more independent) environment. It's nice to meet you. :)

Hi NicoleStorey,

In my own opinion, I like the structure of college compared to highschool. It has more freedom and room to explore as opposed to standardized and rigid learning. On the downside I think there are more chances to mess up if you are unprepared. It helpful if you can find an outlet or an in that will "induct" you into the social and physical community.

What are your sons interests? Does he have any idea what he would like to focus on in college?
