Hello!

My name is Katherine. I've been searching for an Aspie community for a while so I hope this is the one for me.

A little background...in 2nd grade I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS. That lasted until I was 20, at which point I was re-evaluated and diagnosed with Aspergers. I have also been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

I'm currently 25. I have a degree in Psychology. I have a service dog but he is more for the schizophrenia than the Aspergers. I also have a pet cat named Echo. My dog is a Lab/Poodle named Sheriff.

What else do you want to know?

Hi Katherine,

Welcome!

Quick question: how can a service dog help you with schizophrenia?

My service dog helps me with schizophrenia in a couple ways. He does crowd buffering by standing between me and other people. This keeps me from feeling paranoid that they are going to harm me. He picks things up for me when I drop them because I am dizzy from anxiety/fear. He leads me to exits when I am symptomatic to the point that I can't get myself out of a situation.

So it is a sort of bodyguard. Must be a extremely smart dog then.
