Hi ForTheLoveOfDogs.

I expected you to say you have a dog, not a cat.

I hope you find lots of useful information and some new friends here.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. :D

Hi ForTheLoveOfDogs,

I too have both ASD/Aspergers & ADHD. Thankfully the ADHD can be controlled using medication but the Aspergers cannot.

Welcome to WrongPlanet :)

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

I am a 53-year-old male who did not speak until age 5. Also had problems with social skills. Could not discern sarcasm or subtle hints. Was teased and bullied as a child (though not severely). I tend to stick to routines, rather than take risks. I've been on my job for 33 years, and am looking forward to retirement. I didn't graduate college until age 45. Got my degree in speech pathology and English.

I would love to travel the world. My only requirements are no bugs in hotel rooms, air-conditioning in hot weather (especially at night), a refrigerator in my room. I would love to have a stove as well in my hotel room.

Have a lovely day. Don from New York City
