I limit the amount of times I log into wrongplanet because quite frankly reading up what my fellow aspies have on their heavy hearts often makes me reflect on my own life and makes me feel sad and hopeless.

Why don't aspies Unite? If the world does not understand us, care about us, or see us, we must do the only thing we can do: GET TOGETHER!

If we united in a meaningful way, started lobbying, started organizing, finding ways to unite us and bring us better support, better job placement, and more understanding, we could make all our lives a lot better in a REAL way instead of endlessly discussing what seems be "lives of lonely and quiet despair".

If we united in a meaningful way we could make life better and more managable for not only ourselves but for millions of Aspies the whole world over. We could improve the life of adults and children with aspergers and future aspies as well.

We have to stop relying on social services, forgiving bosses, and loving family for the quality of our lives. Those things have helped a lot of us survive but we must go out there and claim our own lives and claim a piece of this world as fully realized individuals.

No NT or aspie-relative will help us achieve this. Only the minds of aspies united could make a real significant change for the rest of us. I have met several genius aspies in my life and I know there are many more smart ones among us. One of you, please start something. Get together, let's start a new community from the bottom up that really focuses on giving aspies the future they desire.

Has any of you have the same dreams/desires as me? What do you think would be a good way to start?

The first project should be to invent a warp drive.

Just saying.

If you really want people with asperger's to unite, you should look for people that are willing to work with you. :)

They have Asperger's meetup groups everywhere. We have one here in Seattle which I've never been too because of avoidance issues. According to the site, they have around 400 members, yet in their Saturday groups, only about 15 to 30 folks show up. I guess I'm not the only one who's avoidant.

First, we have to agree that there may be a need to unite, and what that need may be.

Second, we have to assess or talents and resources, individually and as a group.

Third, we have to agree to discuss, in a reasoning manner, what needs to be done.

THEN we can determine what to do and whether or not we can do it together.

Finally, we do what we can, when we can, and for as long as we can.

Then again, who is this "We" that people keep talking about?

You know, maybe it hasn't been done yet because it's a lot of work.

Could be ... a lot of work that no one is willing to do, but that everyone seems to want to have done.

Or able to do. You think our ASD interferes with this?

I think many of us with ASD tend to dislike getting together, and "team" is considered a four-letter word. I think that's one reason we've been at a disadvantage up until now.

However, JacobV, there are organizations like Autism Self-Advocacy Network and Aspies for Freedom that advocate for ASDs and push for acceptance rather than cure. Try researching those organizations, and if you don't think they're suitable you could consider starting one of your own.

I nominate this guy as our leader! anyone second?

Respond with your first name or nickname, and your skill. The more people respond, the more likely it is for a real group to start and the list of our total skills at hand increasing.

I'm Jacob - carpentry, plumbing, and also web design.

Revive this idea!! !

Where do things stand as far as resources for "self-advocism"?
Do our organizations truly provide the voice we need?
What type of network might we be able to grow if we really did band together, not just from a local or statewide meetup standpoint, but on a larger scale?
Grassroots, folks! "Let It Begin With Us!"
My experience tells me that unless like-minded individuals willingly share a common goal, that vision will not come to fruition. I will tell you that when it comes to particular interests of my life I have spent many an hour beating my head against proverbial brick walls.
If we were to truly develop such an organization or entity, it would have to serve purpose of community - in other words, what was suggested in the posts that came before.

Imagine a nationwide (worldwide? Intergalactic?) network of spectrum individuals listed for their knowledges, experience, and special interests. If such a "registry" of unique, talented individuals were embraced and developed - they would be accessible as people of interest much like we have here...

This has me thinking not only from a community standpoint but also as a resource "bridged" to the NT world - finding specialist individuals is not a new idea, far from it, but what do we think of utilizing our gifts and abilities from such a realm? Might it give some better context or credibility? Would Joe Blow know what a precious resource they have in me, Aspie Q39J7, because of my Aspieness and passion/lifelong interest in XYZ/amazing work detail in ABC?

Could we not also possibly begin to bridge that gap and start to educate the public a bit more as to why I might have specific needs or requirements they don't and that I process things a bit differently?

It could be a step in the right direction...

I'd be happy to help out in terms of decoration or event management.
