I'm WenDe 文德, it's pronounced like "When Duh" or also known as FanDe 范德 That's pronounced like "Fahn Duh". Nice to meet you, I am using my Chinese name as an alias, WenDe is also a very common name in China. Anyway, I'd like to introduce myself a little bit. I was diagnosed I guess you could call it that right? Wen to a therapist and he told my family about it and everything, it's only mild... I really like East Asian Culture, I'm learning Mandarin Chinese right now. I recently got out of a slump when I tried to study the mentality of people living in the DPRK and the root of Juche which is kind of like Confucianism combined with socialism. I won't get into that... Anyway I really like Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cinema as well as some Russian cinema and a few other places too. I like to roleplay on a table top system (mutants and masterminds is a personal favorite of mine). I also like to listen to Japanese and Chinese old music and folk... Sometimes I'll even watch some Chinese opera here and there. I also like Classical and Early music. Especially the instruments, my personal favorites are the Harpsichord and the Virginal, both which are elegant and produce a golden sound. I also like the Suona, the lute, the Accordion (there's many different kinds in Russia though), and the Calliope. Sometimes in my free time I like to look at the pictures in old Medieval Manuscripts especially the Codex Manesse. Some old manuscripts also include medieval musical notation like the Cantigas de Santa Maria which are pleasant to hear. I also like to collect coins in the memory of my grandfather and because I like antiques. I also like Vocaloids and Anime! I like Military Marches too! It's nice to meet you all.

Thanks I didn't draw it, but it is of Gumi Megpoid! The same person who did the voice bank for her also did the Voice of Ranka Lee in Macross Frontier.

Do you like early music at all? Do you like William Byrd? Also what do you consider classical... I guess some people define it differently depending on the person.

i consider classical to be made up of early, baroque, classical, romantic, and modern. i like baroque and romantic best. my favorite piece of all time, though, is the modern barber's "adagio for strings." sorry, i'm not familiar with william byrd. will check him out on youtube and get back to you.

Greetings FanDe! Welcome to our little corner of support for aspies! The Squid welcomes you with a gift of a virtual turnip. Use it wisely! It's invigorating to see someone on the spectrum take such interest in society and culture. It's something many of us find strange. You've gone and turned it into a hobby! Good on you! You seem very worldly and we think you'll fit in nicely. If you have a question, just ask! You may not find the answer, but you will a dozen different view points here. Enjoy your stay!

Yes I've been interested in Eastern Asian Culture ever since I was a kid but to be honest I was ashamed of it when I was a kid so I didn't ever look into it... I just had a certain fascination with China but really knew nothing about it. After I suddenly had my own space. (As a child I was rarely allowed to use the computer and my mother would spy on me I also wasn't allowed a door to my room.) So as I got privacy I began to delve into my interests. I even have made plenty of Chinese friends over the internet, some after a long period of time I tell that I have AS and they never believe me. It's okay, because the important part is that we know each other better. I really like Culture in a way that is something distinguishable and contrasts heavily with the European culture I have been living in. (As US culture is heavily European influenced) so it's really nice to watch Chinese movies and understand their mentality. The first country I took an interest in was North Korea or as I call them the DPRK and their pop and cinema industry as well as their philosophy Juche. I tried to explore it but I also saw a kind of expression to the world masked in a sort of strange overoptimistic attitude that overlooked a lot of problems that plague the society, such as their famine in the 1990's and also their income disparity, I also saw they somewhat overlooked the human condition in favor of a more ideal kind of existence. Juche is heavily influenced by Confucianism which stresses one recognizing their own vital role in society as well as seeing the governing body as a family (fatherly) sort of figure. What interests me about culture is how traditions get started. How people can do rituals in their everyday lives and how they developed into such as well as the development of artistic styles and their implementation. Sorry if I went on some sort of Pseudo-Intellectual rant just now.

You're welcome I'm a big fan of Early Music and William Byrd and Thomas Tallis are two of some of my favorite composers. I even tried very hard to look like Thomas Tallis at one point in my life. If you want anymore recommendations I'd also recommend some of Monteverdi.

Um... East Asian Culture... that's in the east right ?

But I think you will find quite a few people here with similar interests. Just give it time, they are around.

Yay. That's my goal. Because every time I mention it to my friends at school they say: "I gotta go" so I don't think it's their interest.

Hello FahnDe,

I know a little of confucianism but I have to admit I've studied more of the Tao De Ching and Taoism which more derives from the idea that you are simply a piece in the puzzle and should merely endeavour to be true to yourself. Thats what I love about autistic people they level of expertise in various esoteric knowledge.

Thank you quetzajocati, I must say... I feel like a real amateur when it comes to this subject, the funny thing is is that my idea of Confucianism only comes from a very vague interpretation of the core books. Instead I have turned to the actual application and other indirect interpretations of it, for instance, Korean Juche writings, most of my perspective on these things comes from how it has been implemented in modern day and how it has influenced some kind of root of east asian thought... For instance my teacher brought up the fact that Confucianism had influenced the cultural revolution, even though it had been a movement that was for breaking away from old Chinese ideas, their idea of art serving a purpose (the people) in socialist society, the people=the state, so in essence art exists to serve the state it's a lot more complex than that though... It is really nice when you can see two things that connect with each other even if it is in a really loose sense. I think I will look more in depth to ancient china to to understand this better, right now I only know about the modern world, but classical chinese will be fun to study, I also want to go deeper and further than the Qing dynasty, which is about as far as I've gotten. They have a great museum near my house that has some Ming Dynasty furniture and wall decorations... It's really interesting to view, it's a reproduction of a Qing public building that uses some original pieces and some are reconstructions. Anyway thank you for your support... Even so I do feel like I'm a little bit lacking and I know so little about this stuff, a lot of my thoughts are speculations and they don't make as much sense when I explain them to other people as they do when I think of them to myself. but talking with you about this helps me gather them more properly... so thank you... i try to practice modesty, but when I do talk about this stuff, even if it seems I am showing off I am doing it also so that I can help organize my ideas more properly, it benefits me greatly, so thank you.
