What is your first name? It starts with M.

Age: 30+

Location: Northern Europe. English is not my first language.

Hobbies and Interests: Visual arts, cats, books, neurology, psychology, natural sciences, languages and cultures. I love volunteering, creative writing and painting, but mostly I just spend time surfing the internet.

Why are you here? I just felt I needed a place to discuss these topics and meet people with perhaps similar issues as me.

When were you diagnosed? I haven't been diagnosed so far. I'm quite sure I'm on the spectrum, though. My brother has Asperger's, and his problems have always been similar to mine. When I was young, I was diagnosed with recurrent depression and a personality disorder with avoidant and borderline traits.

Favorite subjects: Psychology, biology, religions and arts

Year/Grade: I'm currently back in college, trying to get a bachelor's degree in social sciences. I assume I have about 1,5 years left before graduating.

Favorite music: Almost everything except heavy metal. I've always secretly loved opera.

Books: I like books written by Tess Gerritsen, Robin Cook, Douglas Adams and Dan Brown. Also used to love Torey Hayden, when I was younger.

TV shows/Movies: TV series Orange is the new black, Lost, The 4400, a danish/Swedish series called The Bridge, The Walking dead, Land Girls, Call the midwife. Movies The Beautiful Mind and The Piano.

Instrument: I have a guitar and a ukulele, but can't really play them. I used to take piano lessons.

Do you like sports? Not really. Swimming and playing badminton are quite fun, though.

Family: Just my girlfriend and our little kittycat. My childhood family consists of my mom, a sister and a brother, but my mom has cut contact with me, so I see them very rarely.

Clothing: Jeans and T-shirts. I think men's clothes often look nicer and feel more comfortable than women's, but I don't have the guts to buy them, as I'm a woman.

How did you find this website? Just googling around.

Job: Have only once had a real job. Not working right now.

Plans for the future? Well, maybe not plans but hopes and dreams: to get a better flat and neighborhood, to graduate in time, to get a job (of almost any kind), to buy and repair an old, wooden house, to write a novel and have time for painting and other arts.

What is your first name?

Age: 21

Location: Pennsylvania, USA

Hobbies and Interests: This stuff should be on my profile, lol. I said music, cats, and nature.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): 18

Favorite subjects: History, politics, art

Family: Yes, I have some.

How did you find this website? I don't remember. I might have posted in this thread awhile ago. I figured I can try this website again

Plans for the future? I want a job, a cat, and a gf with whom to cuddle every night. I want to see the world and travel.

Any comments? No.

Hi, just taking the survey here...

?What is your first name?
LD
?Age:
45
?Location:
Tacoma (I followed a link to a local (for me) Aspie Women's support group, but got the MailerDaemon mssg for the e-mail I sent. Anyone have updated contact info?)
?Hobbies and Interests:
Dragons, Unicorns, and other fantasy animals
Biology, Literature, Drawing & Painting, needlework & cooking
?Why are you here?
I think I might be Aspie, or somewhere on the spectrum
?When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
I'm not--only self diagnosed, and only this summer (2014)
Favorite subjects:
Literature, foreign languages, art & anatomy
Year/Grade:
college graduate, 2012. High School graduate, 1986.
Favorite music:
As long as the words are about Jesus and His Father, Maker of heaven and earth, I like it. The lyrics are the key thing for me.
Books:
Too many to list. But start with the Bible. :) then go to C.S.Lewis, George MacDonald, J.R.R.Tolkein, and further up and deeper in to every fantasy world ever created by the imagination of man.
TV shows/Movies:
Um, I don't have a TV anymore, but my most recent fave progs were Criminal Minds, House M.D., Cold Case, Without a Trace and the Big Bang Theory. I like Disney Animation--including Fantasia and PIXAR, and Dreamworks. Action/Adventure movies are o.k. as long as they're in a fantasy world instead of another DESTROY NEW YORK/LA movie.
Instrument:
Flute. I dabble on keyboards, guitars, reeds and brass.
?Do you like sports?
Only if there is no ball, and no team. Except Quidditch. Quidditch is ok.
Family:
I live with my 2nd husband and my 5th cat. My daughters visit every other weekend. My sons are grown and gone, and I don't see my grandkids often enough.
Clothing:
Soft and comfortable is preferred! But I have to wear slacks and polo shirts to work. :(
?How did you find this website?
I forget--I think I was reading Aspie Blogs and once enough of them linked to here I followed a link and lurked a week before joining. Then I lurked an additional week before posting!
Job:
Medical Records Technician in pediatrics.
Plans for the future?
Medical Coding and Transcription in a Hospital. Someday, retiring in the mountains in Western Montana.
?Any comments?
How do I explain to neurotypicals that autism isn't an excuse for behaving "badly" (according to their social conventions), it's a constant struggle to understand why it seems nobody really likes or understands me?

Wait...that's not a comment, is it, it's a question!

Asperger's is like color blindness, only in social skills and reading people's moods. No, a color blind person can't tell red from green just by trying harder. No, I can't figure out why what I did or said (which seemed perfectly reasonable and logical at the time) hurt your feelings or embarrassed you just by trying harder to "put myself in your shoes." No, an Aspie can't figure out what to do/say to make it all better just by thinking about it for a minute or two. It's not a "no-brainer," and it's not a thing any five-year-old could understand. It's a thing that most neurotypical kindergarteners would understand. But I don't get it, and it would ease a lot of frustration if you could find a way to explain it to me instead of blowing up at me!

*thanks for noticing me*

Age: 16

Location: Small town in VA

Hobbies and Interests: I really like keeping stats in sports, and creating sports situations in my head(Not really into playing much)

Why are you here? Aspergers/ADHD

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Don't recall the exact date but around a year ago, as a followup from a school study.

Favorite subjects: Math, and Writing(even though it isn't a subject)

Favorite music: Rap, but thats mostly because I try to fit in, in all honesty it's probably emotional music, not just emo, any emotional music, because I am a very emotional person.

Books: I don't dislike reading, I just don't because I don't see the point, because I find most stories thrown together, if that makes sense.

TV shows/Movies: To be honest, I don't have one, I actually have a theory about that... I don't think the majority of people have a favorite movie, they just state a movie they liked.

Instrument: Nothing

Do you like sports? Yes as I previously stated.

Family: Dad, Sister, mom, and step-dad

Clothing: I don't really pay attention to clothes, I mean I wear name brand just because of peer pressure, but in all honesty I see it is a waste of time, shoes are shoes, the comfortability never bothered me, I actually found cheaper shoes to be more comfortable, because you don't have to pay attention to them getting dirty or ruint.

How did you find this website? I am currently struggling adapting to bullies and the new outlook I recieved after I realized what I had.

Job: Bagger at Kroger

Plans for the future? I would love to be a high office position in a sports organization, but I often make plans and dreams, and at the moment, I am trying to save up 10,000 dollars and move down to Charlotte North Carolina, get a job, and then intern for the Bobcats/Panthers.

Any comments? I also suffer from undiagnosed social anxiety :x

What is your first name? Micayla

Age: 31 in a couple days

Location: Northeast Ohio

Hobbies and Interests: Jigsaws, a few strong fictional TV shows, weird facts, Inception

Why are you here? I recently had an awakening due to confidence and realized that I can jump ahead of being "the girl with the problems" because all of those "problems" that made me unnacceptable to people and myself are in fact something that make me special, however at the same time I feel like no one will listen cause I wasn't diagnosed. It isn't just a guess, I have Aspergers, but I feel like once someone has another title they're in that caste for life and no one cares.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Oh, I have a disorder, Aspergers and if not that something almost identical that affects social function, behavior and includes high intelligence. My NVLD diagnoses came at 8 (which wasn't considered to be related to Aspergers in 91, especially not in girls?), then all the irrelevant ones piled in, but I found a few numbers to call and people are saying it's not too late and even insuranceless it's under $300...

Favorite subjetcs: I can rant about almost anything. Some are good rants, some are bad. I'm comfortable in a craft store, bring up one of my shows or Inception and I won't shut up, music as well. I'm a bit...lost now in regards to everything, but I can have an intelligent conversation about almost anything not related to math and science, but what I really want is for people to understand what's going on inside my head, which I can't communicate, so I talk about everything else. It was also a "successful" (no) way to convince therapists that I'm "avoiding things", "fine", "hypomanic" (cause I can't shut up.)

Year/Grade: I went to secretarial school ages ago, tried community college here in the US but I started a shift job and just couldn't work out a routine and self supporting's always been more important than school, besides I'm allergic to math, teachers, classmates...high school never ends and no one understands me.

Favorite music: Phases and phases. Last 7 weeks I can barely go an hour without the Barenaked Ladies, but usually it's a mix of whatever, including but not limited to Foo Fighters, Beatles, Sheryl Crow, REM, Counting Crows and a couple Israeli singers (lived there too long)

Books: Shutter Island (and most Dennis Lehane), Harlan Coben. I can't concentrate on anything not fascinating to me right now, but I used to read EVERYTHING I could get my hands on till I was about 20. I've been having trouble reading lately and I need some new books that can draw me in.

TV shows/Movies: Inception. Inception, Inception, should I repeat? My main show is X-Files, my main current (and recently deceased) shows are Warehouse 13 (RIP), Haven, Homeland, Sherlock, Orphan Black and Doctor Who, but I follow a few more

Instrument: None

Do you like sports
? Not in the least.

Family: Two beautiful cats, foremost. The biologicals live in Israel and I just had a disasterous visit with my mom. I rent an attic from a family who took me into their "band of misfits". I have two brothers, my parents are still together.

Clothing: Thank God there's somewhere to talk about this. I'm little. 5"2, 110 or so, easily a small, but I've NEVER been comfortable in clothes my size. Over the years I've gotten better and can usually overdress by only a size or two before feeling like I don't fit in my skin. People said sexual abuse, I argued it till I realized there's no logical explanation I can't be comfortable, so I did what I think a lot of Aspies have to do, justified my "weird" behaviors. I dress like a guy at times (I'm straight), improving only slightly. I'm most comfortable in pajamas.

How did you find this website? Googled Aspergers

Job:Third shift at a gas station. Robotic, autopilot work which is good for me but I hate coworkers and customers and it's terrifyingly hard for me to get new jobs and we're anticipating a manager change. I'm overqualified intellectually, but behaviorally it really is all I can do.

Plans for the future? Figuring out how to balance my life.

Any comments? I'm looking for some great Aspies to talk to. Please talk to me about anything. I'm not bad once you get to know me :)
