What is your first name? Igor

Age: 36

Location: Los Angeles

Hobbies and Interests: music, books, movies - obviously I'm very selective about all of these.

Why are you here? I have no social skills and no friends. I'm rather unhappy about that.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):

Favorite subjects:

Year/Grade:

Favorite music: Amorphis, Beatles, Brant Bjork, Black Sabbath, Cake, Cracker, Fu Manchu, Grateful Dead, George Harrison, Buddy Holly, Kinks, Kyuss, Pixies, REM, Ramones, Ringo Starr, Spoon, They Might Be Giants, etc.

Books: Douglas Adams, Jim Dodge, Greg Egan, Harry Harrison, Kay Kenyon, Christopher Moore, Tony Vigorito, etc.

TV shows/Movies: No TV for me. Blade Runner, Caveman, The Edge, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Peter Pan (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Young Frankenstein, etc.

Instrument: guitar, drums - not very good though.

Do you like sports? I don't like watching sports. I like to play soccer and ultimate frisbee, but only non-competitive.

Family: married, have a child.

Clothing: don't care.

How did you find this website? Through Wikipedia.

Job: computers.

Plans for the future? It's rather difficult to think of this at the moment.

What is your first name? Ultridian Blasting Cycloptic Friend Two (Gold Edition). Not really. Uncertain is my name.

Age: 20

Location: A caravan outside my parents' house, Blairgowrie, Perth, Scotland etc etc. If you find me, knock on my door and we shall be friends.

Hobbies and Interests: Composing ludicrous music, designing and programming a text-based virtual reality, the end / evolution of the human race, sketched art, computer art.

Why are you here? I like reading my own witty replies to other peoples' posts LOL. See? I think I'm hilarious.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Self-diagnosed about a month ago, currently undergoing the long, drawn out official diagnosis procedure. If I'm lucky, they will send me for REFERRAL in a MONTH.

Favorite subjects: Uhh... hm. I like collecting Sunshine Bears. I even have the huge, almost life-size one because I managed to win it at the shows by successfully defeating their deceptively tricky pop-gun challenge. Music is brilliant, in that it literally causes everywhere it lives to vibrate with an intense, almost tangible brilliance.

Year/Grade: 432Hz (true A).

Favorite music: I love Devin Townsend's collective works, I love lots of obscure bands like The Locust, Melt Banana, John Zorn and Painkiller, Sunn O))), and Boris. I love my own music, although it does not often compare to these others listed. I do have plenty of it, though.

Books: I think the last book I read may have been The Psychopath's Bible, maybe 2 or 3 years ago. THAT'S a book that can change you, if you can make it through to the end.

TV shows/Movies: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Twelve Monkeys, AKIRA, Cast Away (by which I refer to the Tom Hanks thing.) Anything that breaks the reins and goes charging with purpose into the kind of no-man's-land that leaves watchers in calm awe.

Instruments: Djembe, keyboard, guitar, music sequencers.

Do you like sports? Nope. Actually I used to enjoy TaeKwonDo until I found out 6 months in that the guy teaching me it was teaching me WRONG.

Family: Brother, sister, mother, father, 2 cats, a dog, three rabbits, at least one ferret. 3 Sunshine Bears.

Clothing: I used to go to charity shops, find anything plain, thin, dark and wooly, and cut most of the neck out of it so that it only barely hung onto my brittle, skinny shoulders, and exposed some amount of my upper chest and back. I love clothes like that, they fit my weird self-image. I went to school in clothes like that for the last couple of years. Grey and purple-grey are my colours - otherwise, preferably black.

How did you find this website? I leaned fast to starboard. Not really. Wikipedia.

Job: I improve my virtual reality constantly and have between 12 and 15 albums of music and a whole lot of art, but I have no paid job because I am clearly mental.

Plans for the future? Take part in the evolution of mankind and the Earth. Other than that, there's always life and death! Hooray! Never a dull day in my caravan.

Any comments? I very much enjoyed talking about myself at length, and am now slightly upset that the questions have ended.

Age: 24

Location: Fargo, ND USA

Hobbies and Interests: Commercial production. Sound for the morning news. My band, A Prior Hassle, CG effects and compositing

Why are you here? You're my type of people. Wanted somewhere to go to let out my aspie tendencies instead of obsessing about them.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): It was just a week ago that I heard of AS

Favorite subjects:

Year/Grade: Graduated Highschool in 2001. Post education in running a recording studio.

Favorite music: Indie. It seems to me people were making music for the music pre 1970 then it went to s**t. Indie is where the heart of music remains.

Books: House of Leaves, greatest scariest book ever. I couldn't read it in long stretches because it would give me the shakes, make me feel uneasy and sometimes even a little sick due entirely to suspense

TV shows/Movies: Whatever I decide to watch on TV-Links.co.uk - Trailerpark boys is really great. One of my favorites.

Instrument: 2ys accordian, 6yrs piano, a year of percussion, a couple guitar lessons and then whatever instruments I have available. I'm a quick learner

Do you like sports? nah

Family: Greatest family ever. My mom is all new age, my dad can fix/build anything, my sister sings and does art, my brother has worked in the fields of Stained glass, neon lights and glass blowing, upholstry, metal bending and I kid you not, he went train hopping for a month and came back knowing how to play the harmonica REALLy well

Clothing: Can't stand jeans, only wear dress pants and khakis. Dress shoes. T-shirts or a dress shirts and ties.

How did you find this website? I needed a place to go to cope with AS

Job: Television Station

Plans for the future? Many many many. I'll succeed to. My standards are so different that I really don't think I can fail.

Any comments? Great to hang out with a such a great bunch.

What is your first name?
Um, I'd prefer not to tell; in real life, only my family and my close friends know that I have Asperger's. (And I have a very uncommon first name, so I'd be very quickly identifiable based on my name and my interests.) I've chosen to go by Dvora here because while it's not my Hebrew name, I really like the name as the original Dvora was a Judge of Israel in the Tanach (the Jewish Bible). This is also the handle I used on Aspergia where I used to hang out. Then I rather radically dropped all online forums because I was seriously obsessed with them and it started causing serious problems in my daily life ("It's 2 AM! But I need to post! And maybe someone replied! And I need to post again!!" -> Really Bad Sleep Deprivation), and when I had time to return, Aspergia was gone *sigh*

Age:
23

Location:
I'd prefer not to tell... but in the past year I've lived in 3 different countries. Soon after I left the Aspergia forums, I became completely fed up with my native country and applied to all the foreign student exchange things I could find. Now that I've lived in Real Developed Countries (and I'm still living in one yay!) I dread the time when I'll have to go back, but it'll be a must since I need to submit my master's thesis (and defend it, G-d willing). The reason why I'm secretive about my country is that it would cause me serious problems were my university to know that I have a "psychiatric condition" (yes they consider Asperger's a psychiatric condition. That speaks volumes).

Hobbies and Interests:
Cognitive science!! !! !! I'm a brain nerd. And my main interest is also my daytime occupation ;)
Also, computer graphics, science fiction (both reading and writing), worldbuilding, messing around with computers,

Why are you here?
I liked Aspergia (liked? obsessed over!) and I'm looking for something similar. A more immediate cause might be that I have had troubles trying to engage in a romantic relationship, and when I told my family about my difficulties they became very defensive all of a sudden, and now they keep on telling me on and on that the problem is that I'm "too smart for everyone". Which I think is stupid, because I know many really smart people, but still don't have a relationship. And my best friend has been deprived of her internet access (she moved into a new dorm and they don't have internet AT ALL, they've been promising getting it installed for weeks now) so I can't talk to her either. So maybe here I could either find a partner, or meet some people who have the exact same problem, or both at the same time (which would be great).

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
As a child; after years of being shuttled from one mental health professional to another (it was literally traumatic), I was finally diagnosed with "social adaptation disorder". Back then my country didn't have DSM or ICD implemented, so I don't really know what this is, but it's what I have on file. I was told I probably had Asperger's as a sophomore at university, but I haven't sought a formal re-diagnosis, since having a recent diagnosis would be strongly detrimental to my job prospects. I try to get by, but sometimes it'd be great to be able to tell people. There have been some really annoying situations, because I'm around psychologists a lot, and they notice. And tell me.

Favorite subjects:
Um, dunno, at grade school I liked everything where I wasn't bored. Exactly which subjects were those varied from time to time. And I was bored all too often (I still am, but I now have a laptop and I can write something else while pretending to take notes.)

Year/Grade:
Huh?

Favorite music:
I like industrial, folk music (all sorts) and rap the most.

Books:
No!! ! No!! !! Don't get me started!! !! ! I can get into horrible book rants.

TV shows/Movies:
I prefer anime, I think it's because I find it hard to tell people apart, and in cartoons everyone has a different hair color  I mostly watch seinen anime (Japanese cartoons targeted at a young adult-adult male audience... yes I'm female)-

For this can't-tell-people-apart reason I usually watch TV with my brother - we download the series, and I can pause and ask him who is who, and watch at my own pace. (I suppose this is what TiVo is about, in the US? A huge amount of American cultural refs really go over my head. But I have online friends from the US and I'm trying to learn from them.) So we watch what we can agree upon, usually SF series.

Instrument:
I used to play the piano as a kid but hated it after a while. I just couldn't coordinate my fingers enough, it was a big mess. I have taken up playing the Egyptian tabla as an adult, but it's all self-taught. Unfortunately, I haven't played in a year because I couldn't carry my instrument around while moving around the globe. I think I will be able to retrieve it in 2 weeks, I'm really looking forward to it (but I usually drum on EVERYTHING I can put my fingers on, having an actual percussive instrument is just an excuse LOL).

Do you like sports?
Yes!! I like all sorts of sports. Unfortunately my work/school schedule is very erratic so I can't go to regular workouts currently... I just do exercises and shadow boxing in my dorm room. (Yes, it's a single room, LOL) When I will live in one permanent place again, I'll do martial arts like I've done in the past. Something with a lot of contact combat, because I enjoy being in a fight. Exactly which style I'll choose will probably depend on the area I'll end up living in - I don't aim to be proficient in any style (I have serious movement coordination problems so this is impossible... sigh) but I just enjoy beating people up and getting beaten up for the sake of it.

Family:
I have a brother, my parents are divorced. That's basically it. I like my family, but I think I get along really well only with my brother (and my father, though I haven't met him in years because of physical distance), which really makes me feel bad since I know they want to be nice to me, it just doesn't always work out.

Clothing:
Since I'm an Orthodox Jew, I keep by the traditional clothing guidelines (tzniut). I still manage to look like a cross between a badly dressed rivethead and a male computer science student, somehow!

How did you find this website?
Google/Wikipedia combo I guess.

Job:
I'm a grad student in psycholinguistics! (In fact my degree program has a very long and complicated title, that when google searched would likely show you my IRL website, so I'd rather not share.) I tend more and more toward the linguistics side these days, because I get along with linguists better than with psychologists. (I'm really interested in anything that's about the BRAIN so it'd be hard to narrow down my interests otherwise. My university does that for me.)

Plans for the future?
I want to go back to my native country and turn in my thesis. Then I want to apply for PhD programs abroad. Probably in Western Europe, I don't think I'd like to live in the US (please don't be offended!! I can explain in detail). When I finish my PhD I'll move to Israel IY"H. (Or maybe if I find a program that's a fit with my obsessions, I'll go there sooner?) Academia is my "sheltered environment" - even psychologists tolerate my eccentricities if I do their stats! And abroad, people usually assume I'm odd because I'm from a backwater country or because I'm a strictly religious Jew (this latter doesn't work inside the Jewish community, unfortunately, they realize I'm odd even without the Ortho bits). The past year has been such a relief!
I also want to marry but this is very complicated due to my cultural customs (I think of Judaism more as a culture which happens to feature religion than a standalone religion, so I'm somewhat uncomfortable with saying 'religious customs'). I think I'll make a separate post about it.

Any comments?
yeah well um. Now you can see why hanging out on Aspergia caused me problems. I can't stop typing!! !
