Hello to everyone. Thanks in advance for being patient with my verbose introduction.
I've been on the fence for a few years now on joining wrong planet...and I recently decided to do so. The primary reason for my indecision is I am a self-diagnosed Aspie and have been concerned that I don't have a "real diagnosis"...even though I know that psychology can be very subjective. Is there such a thing as being digitally socially awkward?
I first suspected Asperger's when I saw John Elder Robison on the Ingenious Minds show a few years ago and thought, "he reminds me of me". I do not claim or feel I have any savant type abilities but a light bulb went off when I saw the show. I had my wife watch and she also thought I was on to something.
I have struggled with perusing a diagnosis due to the added complexities, costs and uncertainties associated with diagnosing adults. We got a few books including "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" by Tony Atwood. When she got to the chapter about long term relationships, a lot of it ended up highlighted and I think she may have started crying at one point. That said, she has chosen to stick with me for the last 20 years, despite the difficulties we have.
I am high functioning and feel that is largely in part due to the support, encouragement and forcing me into social situations that my wife has provided me. She has really helped me unlock my potential.
My AQ score is currently 34
My Aspie Quiz results are:
Neurodiverse: 148 of 200
Neurotypical: 67 of 200
If you made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read the whole post.
