i suspected that I was an Aspie for about a year now. I thought I was just weird (as most people said I was) but after watching the tv show Parenthood where a character named Hank realized as an adult that he had Asperger's. It took me a year to get up the courage to seek a diagnosis. I was most afraid of what my wife would think. I was afraid that she would think that I did not love her, when in fact, she is one of two people in this world that I completely trust.

Getting a diagnosis has put everything in perspective for me and I now understand why the way I see things is different from the way others see things.

Welcome. I am new, myself. I am glad that getting diagnosed allowed you to put things into perspective.

I loved this confession of yours. This statement reflects true love.
Anyway, welcome to this forum, Vincentvangogh. In fact, the real Van Gogh, the artist, is my inspiration. So are you an artist or an art lover or both ? Let us know more about yourself. Why did you decide to get a diagnosis at this age ? Please share your experiences with us, i.e. with the younger aspies, so that we may learn a thing or two from you.

Yes it sounds as though you are very thoughtful and caring when it comes to your wife... She's lucky to have you..
I'm at the opposite side of that issue- I still haven't been able to tell my fiance that I got a diagnosis because he's one of those people that so deeply believe the whole vaccines cause ASD thing that neither of his two kids with his ex wife were vaccinated... So how can I possibly tell him that the person he is planning on marrying has the very thing he hates/fears enough to endanger his kids' lives in order to not get that thing?? Yeah it's a real stickler :(

Welcome! My diagnosis has proved a help to me also, even at a later age.
