Hi. So, I'm 38 and just now figuring out I got the Asperger's. Always thought I was a bit different, a loner, and just didn't get people. Didn't know it had a name. I stumbled upon some autism information not long ago and thought to myself, "well that sounds awfully familiar," but didn't think too much about it. Then, just this past week I watched the movie "Adam," cause I really liked the TV show "Hannibal" and same actor, Hugh Dancy, is in it. Well, it was a flipping revelation. Ever since I've been reading and watching videos like I just got the secret code that explains my entire life. I'm 99.99999% sure. I want to get formally diagnosed ASAP so I can get some solid confirmation. Feeling very overwhelmed.

Welcome :D Glad you have found something you can relate to. I was only diagnosed a couple of months ago at 28 and my life makes a lot more sense to me now.

I had the same "wwwwwwwooww this is about me!" while reading books about Asperger.

Welcome to WP.

This is the movie you are talking about right? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185836/

I haven't seen that one yet but did watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477302/ recently.

hi im also new and had a similar revelation to you quite recently, although havent been officially "diagnosed" yet.. in some ways its a huge relief (and quite liberating) to read about peoples experiences i can relate to, especially the social aspect, but also a bit of a shame to be labelled? i always thought i was just a bit quirky! haha all the best

I had a very similar experience not too long ago (Im 37). Forget even what show it was but it came on after football one day and I didnt change the channel for some reason, but some kid was having his Aspergers explained to him, and it sounded eerily familiar so I started to research it. And it felt like there was a name for something I long knew- I'm definitely wired differently.

I have never gotten diagnosed, and quite frankly after more research wonder if it isn't something else psychologically that acts similarly. Without insurance it makes little sense to pursue this. I personally see no tangible benefit to getting diagnosed unless I was trying to get benefits, which I am not.

But hey, if that helps finish putting the puzzle together for you, I wish you the best of luck my friend.

I've found it comforting that many of the people here seem to experience many similar things and insightful that there are different perspectives from people with a similar mind.

YES! It is so comforting to know others experience what I do. I didn't even realize I had been carrying around so much guilt and shame about the way I am. No more.

For me it was not so much shame but more confusion on how people around me could do common tasks so much easier and faster then me. How they all had friends, relationships and I had no clue how to get in one and how to keep it going.

Knowing about ASD made everything a lot clearer for me, I still don't understand relationships but I know why I don't and that is enough for me.

Many things are becoming clear. I never felt like I should feel guilt or ashamed. It was really other people that tried putting that on me because I'm not as social as they think I should be.
