Good day, all.

My name is Allison (normally Allie or Al, because Allison is such a LONG name), but I played a missionary in Guys and Dolls, hence the username. You can call me anything that pops into your mind, really. I forget everyone else's name anyway.

I discovered I had Asperger's around age 12, when a psychologist flat-out told me that I definitely was at least a little Aspie. It was kind of an "Ohhh" moment. Kind of explained some of the symptoms I'd been having up to that point, like the urge to scream when I had to deal with certain sounds for too long. I still don't like a lot of people talking around me when I'm trying to concentrate, but these days I'm a lot bolder and will scream "SHUT IT!" if we're in class or something. I happen to like passing the 9th grade, thankyouverymuch.

At age 14 I was referred to a psychiatrist to deal with my remaining psychological disturbances (namely compulsions to hurt myself or others when I saw a certain object, or when a certain word was said). I was extremely relieved to find I had obsessive-compulsive disorder. I'm sure the rest of you know what I mean. It's so relieving to put a name to it.

My current special interest happens to be Guys and Dolls, so if anyone is familiar with this particular musical, contact me. You'd be making a young Aspie very happy.

I'd also be delighted to find some more female Aspies. Autism, in general, is mainly a male domain, but I'm sure there are some chickies around here, huh? I'm especially interested in learning how Asperger's affects women's menstrual cycles. Ahem. More on that later.

I was very happy to find this forum and hope to stick around a while.

Hi Allison,

I am female. I don't know if I have Asperger's or not, but I do have many Aspie-like traits, so I think I may. I'm reluctant to self-diagnose, however. Out of curiousity, how old are you? I ask because you mentioned yourself at different ages, and I wanted to know how recently/long ago these events ocurred.

What exactly do you want to know about aspies and menstrual cycles? Perhaps you could start a thread on the subject.

i'm interested in the connection you mention between AS and menstrual cycles, as i've heard that AS is affected by hormones - getting more marked in women as they get older and less so in men.

i'm finding it difficult to get a reference/evidence for this, though.

suggestions?

V

I'm young. 14, almost 15 and pretty much still a girl. Asperger's makes you grow up fast, though. I've been told that online I can pass for late-twenties.

I find myself a *lot* more emotionally vulnerable at certain times of the month. You know those March of Dimes ads? Sob city. I'm also more likely to scream at someone if they're making a noise that's annoying me--basically, it's an amplification of the Asperger's symptoms I already have. I also had horrible cramps for about a year, but I don't know if that's related to the Asperger's or not.

Welcome to the board. I don't know *anything* about musicals, but I'm a 16 year old female diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.
