Hello from Italy
Hello everybody,
I'm 22 years old and come from Italy.
Due to the fact that english is my third language I apologize for any mistake I'm making.
Currently I'm studying at medical school abroad and I have some years left. Because of the financial aspect I have to
work although I get a little scholarship. I'm working now in the hospital as a scientific assistant in clinical research
studies. It is very challenging, but I like the research sector and I've met good doctors who support me.
I'm writing here because I hope to get in touch with some people who have similar problems like me and maybe I'll
find some answers for questions I always asked myself.
When I was a little baby doctor told my parents that I have some kind of an perception disorder, that I'm autistic and will never live an independent life. I always screamed and never let me hold. My parents were desperate and travelled very far for doing holding therapy with me. They did it over half a year on a daily basis till I became 1 year old (I can't remember). The moment when I was able to do my first steps changed a lot and I quit screaming. The more I got Input the more functioning I was. I've always been different and had big difficulties in connecting with others but at school I did well (until 12 it was easier). When I turned 15 I got into a psychotic phase which was devasting (and school was a desaster as a result). Now its better and I'm very surprised that I was accepted for medical school two months after graduation.
Although the autistic spectrum has always been in the mind of my doctors and many of them wrote it in my medical report they never did a diagnostical procedure to find out exactly. Therefore I organized it myself and now I'm waiting for the result.
My special interests are all in the medical field. I'm especially into neuroscience, the brain, psychology, behavior and really like observing other people. I see others as research project and myself as experiment. I'm trying to find out if its possible for me to do things which I never imagined I could do (like studying medicine, working in research with patient contact, meeting other people regularly or living alone).
I think this platform is the biggest for this kind of issue and therefore I hope to find out, if maybe there are some doctors or other medical stuff with autism spectrum issues who can tell about their development.
Thanks for reading.
ciao, non pensavo di vedere qualcun'altro dall'Italia qui, benvenuto
